I have a Navionics Platinum South card in my Gen2 HDS8. I recently purchased a Gen2 HDS7 and linked them together. Both are non-touch. Updated both with the 3.0 update. The map card was out of the 8 when I did this. In my driveway both units read the card but the map has red squares and rectangles on it. Never had this before it has always worked flawlessly. Will these go away? I've zoomed in and out and didn't change it. Thanks

Should have gone away when zoomed in. Did you zoom all the way, like to a lake to see the detail.

Hi Scout - yep and it did go away then. Just never had it before even when zoomed out. Got that 7 installed we talked about but haven't been out on the lake with it yet. Used the Ethernet to link them and the units did the rest. Think I'm gonna love it! I saw somewhere if I go to the bow and put the 8 on the console in standby the 7 wouldn't read the card. Thinking about putting the card in the 7 that way I can put the 8 in standby when I go up front and won't be as big a pull on the battery. When I'm using the 8 the big motor is running and it shouldn't hurt to leave the 7 powered on...right? What do you think?

I put them into standby if I not using them and if I moving very far then I will put the structure scan page onto "stop sonar" too. It recovers faster that way when you get to your spot.
If you happen to get interference from the other transducer on 2d sonar then you will need to stop the sonar on the opposite graph from your location as well as standby. Hope that makes sense, I'm not the best at explaining when writing.

Thanks. Just gonna have to wait til I can get out on the water and see how it all works. Just don't want to draw down the battery by having to keep the 8 at the console on while I am on the trolling motor using the 7. Wanted to put the 8 in standby but heard if the Nav card was in it then it wouldn't be available to view on the 7. Used to have an Elite-5x HDI up front that didn't have mapping so I always put the 8 in standby to preserve battery while I was fishing. I'm going to post the Elite 5 for sale here but I have to reach 100 post...almost there. Great little unit for 2D and downscan and I've kept it like new. Thanks for your help!

In regards to the standby Navionics not sharing question, I'm not sure about it. I kinda think it will still share but I keep my Nav card at the bow and I think it shares with my console even on standby; but I'm not 100% on it. It's been several months since I've been out in my boat.
On my lakes I use Insight as much as my Navionics, both have their advantages over parts of the other.

I'm hoping to get out the 1st of next week and will check it out. The 7 I bought has Insight but the 8 just has basemap. Really wanting to share waypoints more than anything. Have a great weekend Scout and thanks as usual for the help!
