Been using my Bubba Blades for the last couple years and they work great. Just thinking I could do it faster with electric. I was not blessed with the ability to sharpen a knife very well either and don't do too well with a steel. I have one of those Work Sharp electric sharpeners that works great. Maybe I am too lazy to want to stop and sharpen the blade after every 25 fish or so

Just an opinion on electric knives. The new American Angler goes for about $100 and the new Rapala around $50. I have the Rapala and a friend has the American Angler, they both work great, don't get hot, and have a two year warranty. Blade selection is critical and I prefer the thin flexible ones.
Best advice I can give, is not to cut thru the bones, a knife is not designed or built to cut bones. I get in the neighborhood of 400 fish cleaned before needing a new blade so that is about two cents per fish. You will quickly be able to tell when the knife begins to get dull. You can hit the back side of electric blades on a steel to take the curl off but when they start getting dull invest $8 and get a new one and make life easier and the cleaning quicker.
I can use a Dexter or one of the good filet knives and do a good job, but it is harder on me and takes me more time. I will use em if I have no other choice. Dexter Russel has been around a very long time and most of the pro guides down at the coast use em.
May put a manual crank on the front of my truck, just in case but will continue to use the electric key start.

I've had to Rapala electric knives and both sucked. The first one had the blade release button right where you put your thumb and when you were pushing the knife along the back bone, it would release the blades. It also got very hot when cleaning a limit of fish.

The second one has a little different blade release but it gets hotter than the first one.

I've had pretty good luck with the cheap Mister Twisters but I'm thinking of buying an American Angler next.

I don't have to clean fish on a regular basis , usually just enough for the family
or an occasional fish fry but the electric knife I like is the simple Black&Decker
electric knife. You can pick them up at walmart for like $10 and
have found they last a pretty good while and don't overheat as long as you're not
cutting through bone like mentioned above. Blades seem to last awhile as well.
Good price and decent knife.

I only use an electric knife on scaley fish,crappie,sandbass. For catfish it's easier of me to skin them then cut the fillets off.

I have a mr twister works good for me.

I have the Mister Twister it gets too hot quickly and doesn't seem to work as well thankfully I only have to clean 10-15 on my trips

I bought a 19.95 kitchen aid electric knife in the kitchen section at wallyworld and then bought the rapella electric knife blades for 6.00.
it cuts through bones and never slows down or gets hot. I use a cheap autozone inverter if I want to clean fish away from the house.

I have the 12V Rapala electric you can run it on 12v Batt or it came with the inverter to plug into 120ac I love it on scale fish it a little pain on catfish it wants to cut through the skin. more than likely operator fault. but it runs good and does not get hot going on 3 years old and still on same blades

American Angler in my thoughts is the only way to go Tried others and was not happy
