I'm getting some good hard thumps on my jigs but nothing on my hook. I can follow up with a senko and, BAM!, in the boat. What gives? Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Using braid, no leader. Talon jigs with craws attached. Any suggestions?

How big of a jig are you using?

When using a jig, you set the hook the second you think you feel anything. You do not wait like you do on a plastic worm.

A quick hookset is a must, but you might try another trailer, color or scent to see if they will hold it longer. I was having trouble lately hooking up and a bunch were not hooked great when I did hook up. I switched to a different color with a smaller profile trailer and they were choking it down.

Maybe trim the weedguard, cut a few of the fiber strands, and then spread the fibers out. I have the stiffest bristles I've found in my football heads, and this has helped me cut down on hang-ups and increased the % of hook-ups.
Downsizing the trailer size is another good recommendation.

if you have ever seen a video of how fast a bass can suck a jig in he can spit it out just as fast,so when in doubt jerk his eyeballs out, probably the #1 reason most miss fish on jigs since they are bulky sometimes they just will not hold in in their mouth as long quick hooksets are a must.
all of the above responses are very important also. GOOD LUCK!
Hope your next bass is your personal Best.

Good tips above. How are you setting the hook too? If you side swing a lot of the times the jig head will just pop right out of their mouth, some designs do it worse than others. 12 oclock over the shoulder type set usually buttons em in the roof of the mouth for me.

Lots of times in Summer, that thump is the inhalation of the jig ... then they swim towards you. Try reeling the slack without putting tension on the line then set the hook hard!

I am waiting on that second bump and setting the hook more of a 2-3 o'clock hook set. Spits probly a combination of both. My crawl size on the normal to smaller size. What creacher bait and size do you recomend? My jigs I have the most bumps are the black and blue, green pumpkin with purple in the skirt. The trailers are matching in color. Most in half ounce weights.

That second bump is her spitting it out. First bump means set the hook quickly. Everything else you describe seems good.

Yep, I was taught to cross her eyes on that first thump because it you feel a second thump that's when she spit it out.

Set the hook as fast as possible, those fish can feel that it's fake almost instantly. When jig fishin I never let any slack in the line. Let it sit on the bottom with slow pulls. Good luck
