Just had a customer give me a loaf of homemade sourdough. She has had this starter going in her family for around 100 years. It's definitely different than what we make using store bought yeast. Good stuff!

Anyone have an old family sourdough starter?

Google has a gazillion and they're all similar.

Neat thing is, you don't have to buy or obtain any special starter; just mix equal parts flour and water and let the ambient cultures do their thing.

This weekend, a new culture (two days old) was already trying to push up out of the jar, so a pizza was made with chicken as well as chiles and tomatoes from the backyard.

It's very satisfying, not difficult, and even imperfect results will be good.
