Heading up to the in-laws place on Cypress Springs for the 4th of July and plan on bringing my boat up this time since it is a long weekend. They live on the NE part of the lake by the dam. Any tips or advice for fishing this lake?

Take a good supply of Dramamine if you plan to fish during the day. Early morning top water around deeper boat docks will usually get you bit. Later in the day c-rig and cranks on points. That is about all you can fish because of the huge rollers all over the lake. Otherwise, wait until about 11:00 PM and the lake will calm down. This time of year, the lake night fishes pretty well.

Good Luck.

No, the wind is not bad. The incredible amount of ski/wake board boats, especially on a holiday weekend will keep it rolling. The lake is almost entirely covered with retaining wall. The waves do not dissipate, but rather keep bouncing back and forth all day long with no rhyme or reason to their direction. It's a pain to run.

Ok, that makes sense. Maybe I can find some protection in coves.

Always a huge firework show on Cypress July 4th weekend.
Excessive amount of boats on the water that weekend, go to Sandlin.

I avoid it on the 4th. Too rough and the fishing is tough. You'll have pleasure boaters all around you at any point in the daytime. It's very frustrating.

This. Fish as early as possible as you can, itll start getting busy real quick. Good fishing during the heat of the day but make sure you have a good trolling motor because youll be fighting waves all day.

I would night fish if I were you. We will be down there also and I am not even taking my bass boat because it gets so rough on holiday weekends. We are just going to relax on the barge all weekend.

Been out there on many holidays and it gets crazy. Everyone hit it on the head, pleasure boaters with absolutely no common courtesy. Try to be as careful as you can because they will come close from time to time without even thinking about you. If you can find some deeper docks in coves during the day that would be a good bet. Otherwise early morning and night fishing, ill be out there and against better judgement, be fishing points as long as i can stand it haha. Good luck to ya, fun little lake to fish

Thanks for the responses guys. As for the docks, just working soft plastics all around and under the dock? And as for points, Carolina rigs and crank baits? I was pretty fired up to fish but it is not sounding like a good weekend to do so.

As you already have been told, Cypress Springs will be a zoo fourth of July weekend. try some of the smaller lakes around the area like Gilmer, Tankersley or Winnsboro. they won't have nearly the boat traffice that Cypress will have. I have a place on Sandlin and even it won't be as bad (for number of pleasure boats) as Cypress. Good fishing on Sandlin as well. I'll be out there early morning until it gets too hot or the boaters get too bad.

Dont be deterred, still plenty of chances to catch fish. Pitch either jigs or plastics at the docks go for the shady sides and as far back as you can pitch when the suns up. C-rig, crank, football jig the points. The fishing will be better thursday and friday. Never sure about how the fire works affect the fish.

+1 on Bob Sandlin, fewer pleasure boaters and less pressure.....

I am not making any decisions until the bourbon kicks in!
