Are the shad back? Will shiners work? Or are artificially outperforming bait?

Well said, I was there Saturday. I never really seen any shad. Most of the guides I spoke to said they are either working their butts off to find shad or just buying shiners.

We don't fish bait at all but that about sums it up, we caught them today on bass size poppers, salt water size and my Old Cordell Blue Striper lures.
Did not see any shad on sonar. Marked fish deep but all caught shallow.

Nice fish "fishing fool" .. On saturday we never found them stacked up enough to try slabbing. But did catch them shallow in the morning on 3 to 4 " chug bug topwater and 4" glow sassy shads on the bottom retreived slowly. Mostly I saw other people catching them but that was what they were using smile

What I heard was black salties also work and that even buying bait can be a problem, so call the bait store or bring your own.

MtnDew,

FYI the fish don't have to be stacked to slab em. Just find the depth they are and keep it in that range.

I guess I should say that I was not finding schools vs "stacked" .. or at least I never saw enough marks to feel confident to slab. So we anchored or drifted live bait, I did jig a slab but got lazy and deadsticked some flukes.

I never had my finder light up with arches, like I have see in the past .. but I am still also new at all of this ..

If you ever have screenshots of your finder when you are on fish I would love to see them.

Thanks again for the advice .. more tips to fuel my addiction .. smile

2 days after the other old picture I got my dad his 1st 20# striper before we got almost blown off the lake.

My dad and his striper, I have posted it before but I still like to see it. We went the next day too and did it again. Caught on Zebco 33 and St Croix Rod! What a miss matched setup!

This is twice in like 5 years we have had a major winter shad die off. If it were not for global warming we would never have any shad.

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?
