Spool won't engage, handle just spins. Have tightened and loosened drag. Any ideas? Used lightly twice, has never been taken apart.

Remove the spool and check for anything inside the spool like a piece of trash or line wrapped around shaft and pinion gear. While the spool is out check to see if it engages or not. Otherwise I am thinking the anti reverse pawl is jacked up in the drive line not allowing the ratchet gear to engage the Clutch lever. Or the spring itself is broke or come out of the clutch lever. Not common on a new reel but folks absolutely mess with the drags on these reels to the point they are not designed and it can really screw one up. Not just Shimano but any. Happens all the time with Bass Anglers. My Bet is the AR Pawl.

True if you do not have a backer on the braided line it can cause a multitude of problems but if you follow the steps I gave you the problem can at least be isolated as to where it is. Post back afterwards
