Not familiar with the motor guide but could not be more satisfied with I-pilot.

Can't comment about the I-pilot have never had one. I have the Xi5 and you would have a very hard time getting me to switch. Holds anchor extremely well I fish mainly Richland Chambers and I have fished in some pretty good wind. I have the 80 pond thrust on my Lowes 165 and I finally have enough speed to chase down those ever moving schools of sandier and hybrids. I am not knocking the I-pilot at all as I have never experienced one but I would not say the war has been won by the I-pilot. I also have Lowrance which was a deciding factor as the Mg is compatible with my lowrance. Just my opinion not trying to start a war.

All I can say is Motor guide is too late. I would have gone motor guide but they didn't have anything like the i pilot so i went with the minnkota

Looks like the pin point feature is another 200-300 bucks, so the I pilot is actually the same price as the xi5 when u are doing apples to apples comparison. When you bring in the digital screen on the controller, and Minn Kota's history, It does seem like I know which way to lean....

There are a few features on the xi5 that seem nice, like the 8 track memory and the jog feature, but I work with a humminbird and can always get the link for I pilot down the road...

Sometimes it just helps to write out your thoughts. Thanks for chiming in guys and keep on fishin!

MK has proven itself as the innovator. You won't find many people who own a terrova that are unhappy with theirs. I've owned MG products before and been satisfied but they are new with this technology. Either way you go I'll help you install it. I wonder if a slide max will fit on the new MG product?

I love the XI5 only reason I went with motorguide is because I already invested a lot in lowrance. But I am very disappointed in the constant delay in the release date for the pinpoint interface that will allow the lowrance to control the XI5. Since December I've been told by motorguide it'll be out next month. Today I was told July. If in July I'm told august I'll be furious. Every month for the last six months if been told next month and this is from motor guide not a clueless salesman at a retailer.

iPilot has been good but I wouldn't call it flawless, some problems I've had:

1) Remote range...regardless of battery the remote won't work from behind the console on a 24ft boat and only works really well within about 8 or 9 ft of the motor...people in the way have a negative impact also.

2) Motor response to remote....sometimes the motor is more responsive than others, the amount of turn per push of the button can be a little tough to gauge because one push it might turn 5 degrees and the next 10.

3) The stow/deploy is terrible....very awkward motor especially when stowing a 60 in model. Definitely some room for improvement there.

4) The internal transducers aren't up to par with most transducers

5) spotlock "hunting".....sometimes the motor will hold tight on a spotlock and others it wants to hunt a little too much, GPS strength and wind don't seem to be the only culprits, sometimes it just has a hard time finding the right rhythm.

I'm not knocking the motor....personally I won't own another boat without something similar but since nobody else was commenting on some of the "bugs" I figured I would throw a few out.

Appreciate all the feed back I have seen it hunt a little as well. As far as the deploy and stow issues, not sure what can be done until it is a telescoping shaft lol unless I miss understood what you were getting at. Either way the pin point is not really up to par yet and am wanting to hit the ground trolling so to speak! just waiting to for my boat to get out of the shop and hopefully I will still have the cash to get this!
