I'm trying to put together a generic monthly calender which would point out the species of fish most suitable for that time of year to be caught...from the bank. Before I start researching this, is there already something like this put together somewhere for Texas waters? Thx.

I'd be curious to see a 'scaly fish' version of what damfisherman just posted.

Awesome Dustin, thanks! smile That gives me a good start, much appreciated.

I've expanded "gator gar" to "gar" since all species of gar are generally easier to catch during the same period. I've also expanded other species based on some research but I'm probably off a bit, please feel free to comment and I'll update the first post as needed. Thanks!

I had pretty good luck for LMB from Apr to mid Nov. Summer gets a bit tough in the middle of the day but mornings and evening on into night is good. Not sure if you want to seperate crappie from the panfish in the early spring as I find sunfish to be slow until it gets warmer. I like the idea of this though I think I tried to make a list once on my phone on my list, but it wasn't very good.

Thanks Fisherman13, I agree crappie needs to be separated. I'm thinking Feb-Apr would be some of the better times to go after Crappie from the bank, what do you think?

This year was late so I say (just guessing) mid March to late May or very early Jun. This year it seemed more like people (not me of course) were getting them early Apr. to late May. But the weather this year was crazy.

We caught so many crappies from the bank this year at BB lake is wuzz unrea1!!March thru May.I would put pics.n videos on here, but as you can see my name sorry.Any ways used what I learned from Kansas fishing authority on line just to see if it worked in Texas.Man did it work.During crappie spawning season find this area at the lakes you fish at,sandy or areas with pebble rock bottom best with both, cork n jig,3 or 4 ft. litter all u need.if you find 1 fish keep fishing same spot cuzz they'll be more than 1.sorry dmunsie didn't mean to jack your topic, jus wanted to share

I'm sure he talking about bank. Remember if a lake had hybrids, they will try to spawn in the creeks in april ish to May.

Add blue gills to every month.

Channel cats spawn in May usually. Hit the rip rap with cork and bobber. They r there right now.

Sandies Feb-May creeks rivers and streams spawning run

June-July / cats, Sandies, bass, drum, hybrids all along the rip rap, wind blown shores

October, sometimes the crappie will come shallow again chasing the shad. They will hold up just like they are spawning in 1 ft of water in the middle of the day. Shad r shallow this time of year.

October-January is creek and river crappie time! Last yr sucked though. Bad.

Black bass all year u can catch them from the bank

Sunfish- all yr

Catfish all yr

Drum - hunt the rocks aka rip rap- april to october ( drum r a great white meat fish / lots of peeps throw them away thinking they r trash. Nope! Taste exactly like the black drum out of the gulf.
