I didn't figure I'd be getting much, if any Crappie tonight from the bank, but figured I'd put a black and chartreuse marabou jig 18" under a cigar bobber and see what happened. Ended up with 4 Largemouth Bass along the shore. Had never caught LMB there before, and got zero bites earlier using a beetle spin and a Carolina rigged purple worm. Bass really seemed to like the Crappie set up, and that black and chartreuse roadrunner jig. Scott in Flower Mound

The state record largemouth bass was caught while crappie fishing. Tie on a roostertail, you never know what you might catch.

I'm just curious with the technique for crappie fishing from the bank. When ever I do I use minnows under a cork and that works pretty well but with a roostertail or roadrunner isn't it suppose to be a cast and retrieve. I just want to know for the next time i go out what i should try.

I believe the "rooster tail under a bobber" recommendation was for catching bass from the bank. Thus the cast and retrieve is how you would to that. However, when I do fish for crappie from the bank, I put a roadrunner jig about 18" under a bobber, and cast and retrieve slowly but steadily along the bank. Works great for me. I don't do well jigging vertically from the bank usually.

I once caught a 5 lb plus bass in a local pond on 6 lb test using a slip bobber with a jig. Took 5 minutes to land but what a beaut!
