Mettles are great reels for the price point followed by Bass Pro Qualifiers when they are on sale

On the Shimano Curado reels ... stay away from the G Series.

Do the EBAY thingy and look for Curado B series. Take 'em apart and clean them good (flush the bearings) and then some good oil (Small amount). I have 15 year old Curado B's still casting like a dream. The Curado B 100's are very desirable too.

My $.02 for old time quality. Otherwise the Mettles should be the way to go.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Mettles hands down the best reel for the money. I have 6 of them and they are as good if not better than my Revo's. If you have an issue take it back and walla, a new reel.

For reels in this range, the bps extreme is a very well constructed reel for the money. I've had 2 and both of them are true workhorses of reels. And they make gear ratios from 5:4:1 up to 7:1:1 so they can cover any technique needs. And I think they are on sale right now for $60

I have about 40 reels, the ardents aren't bad and you can buy them under 50, I have several of the mettle that are worn out but only paid 29 for them and they did last a long time. My curados have been severely abused and still work. I don't like the blackmax or silvermax, have them both and they seem like the cheapest ones I have. I got some DIAWA on clearance at academy and they didn't last either. I would choose the ardent first, great reels for under 50
