First, I don't own or have ever even used a Dobyns rod. For the non-professional fisherman (purely recreational), are they really worth hundred plus dollars? Qualify: bass fishing with bait casting reel. Thanks, God Bless

Ok, if/when I find a Doybns Rod on sale, for a bait casting reel, which length overall works best? Sounds like most of my rods are MH with one exception, one spinning reel with light line and really lite rod. There are now 8' models out I'm seeing around, or 7'/7 1/2' ??? Have a SAFE/HAPPY Memorial Day Holiday God Bless

Lee, I put out there today that I was looking for a Dobyns 765Flip (765FLIP / 7'6" / $259.99 on the Dobyns site) and within a couple of hours I had a pm for one for $125 in excellent condition. Of course I met up and bought it. I was using a St Croix Legend Tournament Bass rod the was 7'10" for A-rigs and pitching but I am only 5'8" so it was a little too long for me to pitch. This Dobyns is perfect. If you look around a little and have a little patience you "CAN" run up on a good deal on a high quality rod. And yes, you can't replace quality for anything else. Quality rods start with quality materials which typically are more expensive to manufacture.
Life is one big playground. Be sure to ride all the rides before it closes.

Lee, the Dobyns Champion 736 is one of their very versatile rods. It's a 7'3, but it's a heavy action with an extra fast tip. I use it for frogs, mainly, because it is made to handle the abuse of braid and has the right tip and cut off point along with the backbone when you need it.. But, it's an excellent rod for tx-rigs, jigs, hollow body swimbaits, spoons, and more.. I know you said 7'6+-8' but I couldn't leave that one out. For the bigger rods I've used or have the 765, 766, 795, 804 and 806 all have their place in the rod box for sure. What 'gap' are you needing to fill in your arsenal the most? Flipping jigs, football head jigs, etc..? We can probably help you narrow it down a little from there...
