How long should I leave my cut bait on? I was fishing for channels the other night at a neighborhood pond and had a couple of good hits on cut perch and then nothing for 30 mins. I pulled them both in and the bait was still on but no guts were left so I switched them out. So I was wanting to know if those were still good or do they have to have some kind of blood/guts in them to work? Can I use really small perch whole and live? Also if I'm taking my 9 year old out what are some suggestions for sure fire channel bait?

I may be corrected but I believe about 15-25 mins -- SOme do more, some less. I like about 15 before I feel it's lost it's zing, heheh.

15-20 minutes seems like a good bet to me for cut bait. A good channel cat bait for me has been CJs and Danny king's punch bait, as well as sure shot. Smaller live perch work really well for the bigger ones as well

I do max 20 min, I then throw the used pieces in a small container of dead red in case I need to reuse them
