Note: Details and Rules Are Subjection to ChangeUnlike the last Carp Rodeo, this tournament permits alarms, bolt rigs, etc. Any angling technique that uses rods, reels, lines, and hooks may be used. Please offer feedback or make suggestions on any changes you would like to see.LSCB's Carp-Fishing Rodeo II The Lone Star Carp Brigade is having a carp-fishing tournament! The venue can support about 25 people, so come out and join us. If you've never fished for carp, see the bottom of this post for a list of what you'll need.- When and Where:
- April 19, 2008.
- Ten-day weather forecast (click here)
- Schedule
- 6:00 a.m.: Begin signing up.
- 6:30 a.m.: Select fishing spots via random drawing (a walkoff).
- 6:45 a.m.: Begin chumming, spodding, and feature finding.
- 7:00 a.m.: Start fishing.
- 7:00 p.m.: Stop fishing.
- The location is a pond in North Texas that we call Ghostie. Click here to send me a PM if you plan to fish in the tournament and need directions.
- No pre-fishing or pre-baiting at Ghostie on April 18 (Friday) or April 19 (Saturday).
- Participation:
- Entry fee is $20 (cash only).
- Optional big-fish pot is $5 (cash only); only anglers who have paid the $20 entry fee for the "regular" tournament may participate in the big-fish pot.
- Participants must sign a waiver (see below).
- Latecomers may participate after paying the entry fee(s).
- Entry fees will be returned if the tournament is canceled before six hours of fishing have been completed.
- Prizes:
- Each participant will receive a scorecard. Another participant or authorized person must sign the scorecard to validate each catch.
- Only Cyprinus carpio (common, koi, ghost, leather, and mirror carp) counts for prizes.
- Tournament Payout (based on total weight of carp):
- With ten or more participants, the payout is:
- 50% for first place
- 30% for second place
- 20% for third place
- With fewer than ten participants, or if only two anglers catch carp, the payout is:
- 65% for first place
- 35% for second place
- If only one angler catches carp, 100% of the prize money goes to that angler.
- If all anglers fail to catch a carp, prize money will be returned.
- Big Fish Payout (based on single heaviest carp):
- All money in the big-fish pot goes to the angler who catches the heaviest carp.
- If all anglers who enter the big-fish pot fail to catch a carp, their money will be returned.
- Additional door prizes may be available
- Tackle:
- Two rods per angler:
- Anglers may change rods, but may not fish with more than two lines in the water at the same time.
- Additional rods may be used for spodding and feature finding.
- Only one single hook per rod; no treble hooks.
- No boats.
- Slingshots (catapults), spods, bait spoons, etc. are permitted for chumming.
- Any bait may be used.
- During the Tournament:
- Good sportsmanship shall be demonstrated at all times.
- Anglers may change swims (locations) at any time during the tournament.
- Maintain a distance of about 10 yards or more between anglers.
- Fishing within 10 yards of another person is permitted if both anglers agree.
- Please don't fish closer to another person than to yourself.
- Anglers must hook and reel in their own fish. An adult may assist a child with baiting and casting.
- Another person may net a fish.
- No snagging. Only fish that are hooked in the mouth area and released alive will count.
- An additional 30 minutes will be allowed to land a fish that is hooked before the deadline.
- Fish must be weighed on an accurate scale.
- Other
- The Tournament Director will have final say in all rules interpretations.
- Trees are scattered around the park, but many swims have no shade. Bring water, food, sunscreen, etc. as required.
- No toilet facilities are on site, but there are several stores and restaurants within a few minutes' drive.
- Anglers are responsible for following all laws and regulations.
- Don't forget your fishing license!
Anglers will be required to sign a waiver (below) to participate. (I don't anticipate problems with anyone on this forum, but since the tournament is open to everyone, I want to make sure I don't accidentally get myself into some hot water.)
I agree to the following: DISCLAIMER: I hereby acknowledge that the Tournament and Staff in part or whole, are not liable, nor responsible for my safety or well being as a participant in this tournament. I also acknowledge that they are not responsible for damage or loss of my personal equipment or belongings. This disclaimer, by my own signature frees the TOURNAMENT from any legal or private claims of negligence should an accident or wrong doing occur. I participate in this event at my own risk!
STATEMENT OF GOOD FAITH: I hereby state that during every phase of this event that I will conduct business with the highest level of honesty and sportsmanship. I agree that failure to comply will result in disqualification from this tournament and forfeiture of all winnings and entry fees. I understand that the tournament Director has the final say in all tournament-related disputes or protests. All protests must be hand written and submitted to the Director before the end of the tournament.
Thanks to TFF's very own "udamdan" for the text of the original waiver. If you've never fished for carp, we can help you get started. Here's what you'll need to bring: - rod and reel (almost any rod about 6 to 10 feet long will work)
- line (6- to 10-pound test or higher)
- small, sturdy hooks (about size 6, but not bream or crappie hooks)
- split shot
- 1 or 2 cans of sweetcorn
- chair
- rod holder
Many experienced carp anglers will be there to help you get started.

If you don't catch a fish then your entry fee is returned? Nope. If no carp are caught by any participants, then everyone gets his/her money back (it was either that, or I keep all of it, but I didn't think that would go over well).

Basically, it will be similar the ATC. Alarms, bolt rigs, etc. may be used; boats (full-size boats or bait boats) are prohibited, as are treble hooks, nets, arrows, dynamite, Rotenone, etc.

How big is this pond?......... I'm getting a funny vision of this thing in my head. A 2 acre pond lined all the way around with Carpers casting globs of sheet at each other from the opposite sides of the pond.

Last year we had, on average, 15 yards or more between anglers. It won't be crowded.
