I've just been using some bass poppers in assorted colors. Went to Bass Pro and didn't know what to buy.

Also, for LMB and sandbass, can I just continue to use 6# mono/floro tied directly from fly line to fly?

If using a fly that sinks, do I need an indicator or cork?

Lastly, whats a good place to buy?

I think you can cover >90% of freshwater situations you'll find in TX with Poppers, Clouser minnows, and woolly buggers.

For Clousers, get a mix of dumbbell and bead chain eyes, in sizes 2/0 down to 6. White/chart is my number one color, then olive/white, red/white, and one darker scheme. For buggers get a mix of unweighted, bead head, and cone head in sizes 4-8. Olive is my number one color, but white, chartreuse, and black are also good colors to have. These are both excellent flies for sand bass. Hit any local shop, they'll have those flies and will help you pick out a good selection. I would start with those, then supplement with local favorites and any flies you think are interesting.

For fishing sand bass: yes you can fish a straight piece of mono/fluoro off the flyline for the streamers (Buggers and Clousers are both streamers). A 7.5ft 2x or 3x tapered leader is a more expensive way that will work a little better, in my opinion. I do both, depending on how lazy and cheap I'm feeling that day.

You can use an indicator with either of those flies, depending on the situation. It will make casting harder, so I generally don't unless it's necessary. Keep a somewhat tight line to the fly and you'll feel the fish take the fly most of the time.

Look for any fly shop in your area, they'll be happy to help you out and answer any questions.

A good place to buy online is https://www.bigyflyco.com. Discounts for buying 6 or more at a time. When they get an order incorrect (I've bought lots of flies and it happened 1 time), they fix it and let you keep the incorrect flies. They have a huge variety.

Breambugs.com has a lot of different poppers and unlike the name a lot of them are bass bugs.

And if you want to buy online locally http://anglersdream.net is located in Arlington.

For a lot of the flies the online prices beat the big box stores.

I fish mostly ponds and while I don't use straight 6 pound leaders most of my tippet is 6 - 8 pound. I'm cheap so I just use mono and fluoro on traditional spools.

It doesn't take much abrasion to break a 6 lb leader when a big one hits so keep an eye on it.

Also if you are fishing near cover I would fish a little heavier leader.

All good advice from the guys above. You don't need 57 different types of flies - don't feel compelled to spend the $$. for the leaders, think a straight leader is fine for bass & sandbass. I think you can go heavier than 6#. 8# should be fine, especially in fluoro since its very hard for the fish to see. as mentioned above you don't need to buy tippet spools. Regular spools of mono and fluoro are fine and are a lot cheaper in the long run than spools of tippet. I use whatever I have left from spooling my conventional reels. I use Trilene XL mono and Seagaur Invisx fluoro.

Seagar invisix for sure. this time of year chasing sandbass I only have one size color and fly chartuse and white clouser size 6. If they won't eat that time to go hope. As far as the majority of our Texas Fishing buggers poppers Zonker's and terrestrials for bluegill will cover most. I like to carry a selection of 6 inch or so long streamers for a big bass though.

All those mentioned above plus I'd recommend gummy minnows. They hold up very well whereas a lot of a traditional flies made from feathers get torn up quickly.
