So caulk the butt joints? What about the broken corners?

just caulk the butt joints, leave the corners alone or you will just make them worse.

use a caulk called big stretch, lowes or homey despot carry it. this caulk works best on hardie since it will stretch a lot further than most other caulks.

@ Butch Sanders. They didnt know much about the product when they first started using it back in 1999. I dont think you are even supposed to nail the corners.

Anyone want to give me an est. on caulking and painting? Some trim needs to the replaced too. 2 story house and a detached 2 car garage in Grapevine.

flush nailers were mandatory also
we installed 2 semi loads on a farm home in Mansfield
the Hardie rep, brought us saw blades & nail guns to use, & over saw the install for the 1st day
learned a lot about Hardi plank

Had our metal frame, two story, built and covered with Hardie in 2002. Bought the primed and hand brush painted with seams and underside of each plank caulked. No problems since. Low pressure wash once a year. Definitely low maintenance. Not sure paint will last 50 years as advertised, but definitely longer than any other siding.
