I went to Lake Tawakoni this morning and caught a few crappie, with one having this fungi or blister on it. Caught some yesterday with the same thing. Does anyone know what causes this and if the fish are safe to eat. I usually throw them back.
Thanks

Rubbing on Bridge Columns would be my guess.

Plenty safe to eat, we catch a lot of them in Cypress Springs, plus a few in most of the other E.Tx. lakes

I'm not sure what it is but I would not be eating it. To many slabs to be taking chances. My .02

I was fishing Tawakoni with CV a couple years ago and we ran into the same thing. They seemed like healthy fish but I would probably throw them back.
