I just downloaded Scanner Radio app on my smartphone. Are these apps supposed to take the place of a dedicated scanner, or am I missing something.
I'm looking for something that will pick up most everything that's broadcast like my old 110v Bearcat would.

Good luck. Most departments are now digital and most scanners and apps won't pickup digital traffic. I have the same app, you will get some but not everything.

Paranoid there uncle_bagster? Are you running a business that depends on knowing cops movements and locations? Do tell...

Heh heh heh...... reminds me of the time we caught some burglars listening to a police channel on their cellphones. The agency they were listening to is 50 miles away. They were unable to understand why they didn't hear us dispatched.

I have the 5-0 Radio app. I go back and listen to scanners in cities I used to live in, like Reno Nevada and others. This app picks up world wide and if you want some entertainment, go listen to the scanners in other countries.
