I have had my unit since February and have updated the newest software. Took my boat out yesterday (4/20/13) to a lake I normally do not fish and my GPS never worked the whole time I was there! I restarted my unit several times and no luck. I unplugged the puck and plugged it back in and still no luck! Any help will be appreciated

I did not know if there has been issues with the pucks going bad or not?

Thanks!

Re-install the former software version to see if the antenna will work.

You could have a corrupt software download.

If that fixes it, delete the new software, re-download the new version and install it. There have been some "issues" with the 6.610 software.

Call Humminbird and ask them to send it to you. You will need to give them the serial number so they will know when it was made so they can match up the software version.

When it was made and when you bought it could be many months apart.

BTW, you did not mention which 998 you have----998c SI Combo or
998c HD SI Combo.

Is the gps receiver plugged directly into the 998 or going through a Y cable?

Had the gps been working then stopped or was this a new install?

What all is attached to the unit and how?

It is plugged directly into the unit.

I have owned this since February and had no problems with it until this past Saturday (4/20/13).

Only thing attached to the unit is the Transducer, GPS Puck, and Power Cable.

Called Humminbird and they are sending a replacement puck.

When u first turn on your unit do you see a menu that say, turn sonar on/off
gps on /off??

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

???????????

NO he won't since it doesn't exist.
There are two Sonar On/Off menu locations but neither is shown on start-up.
There is no GPS on/off setting.
You can choose to set all the Chart views to Hidden.
If the unit doesn't recognize that a GPS antenna is connected, none of the GPS functions are displayed.

Yes I do not get any GPS options since the unit is not recognizing a GPS.
I have never seen a GPS on/off option even when it was working so im not exactly sure what you are referring to there.

Got my new replacement puck in today and plugged it in and there appeared my GPS again so I am guessing my puck went bad. Humminbird customer service was awesome by the way. I simply told them my GPS was not working and I bought the unit in Feb and they said ok your new puck will be shipping tomorrow. Cant complain there!!
