Has anyone been having any luck at the Rock in this heat? I was thinking about going early this Saturday as my usual small spot has been getting hammered lately. I'm sure it is as tough as everywhere else right now but at least has some depth to it as well as different structure, boat docks, etc.

Not looking for any secret spots or anyone to do everything but land one for me, just a basic fishing report. Anything else you want to share is a bonus.

Last time I was at WR, I fished from 7 pm until 10 pm. Not a single bite until 9:20 and then I caught one on just about every cast for 20 minutes. Pretty cool. But obviously a night bite.

I'm hoping for the same thing with the morning bite. I am going to hit the water around 5:30 and plan to be back at home before noon.
I'm going to go ahead and get the frog rod ready for the reeds and timber early, a square bill, shakey head, a jig, and a Bomber FF shad for the deeper stuff later on. If none of this works I will default to a super fluke. If that doesn't work then I am selling the boat and taking up golf and drinking!

Try cranking the dam if youre fishing from a boat.

if you are in a boat or on the shore, start at the northern parking lot on the east side of the lake, just down the hill from whinfrey point, work to the south towards garland road.

to start, do not let your buzzbait get farther than 5 feet from bank.

after the sun comes up, do not let your spinnerbait or norman little n crankbait get farther than 5 feet from the bank.

pull those baits right along the rocks and thru the pondweed.

Been catching lots of 2-4lb off the rocks in front of the white House on NW side of lake using football head with some form of crawfish trailer. No certain time. Caught them in morning, noon and dusk. Also been skunked at all times. Some friends use black trig 5-6in worm and normally can always catch smaller ones. WR has been great this year

Fish the windy banks. There's tons of shad ranging 1 inch to 5 inch in size, but no schooling action that I noticed this past Sunday and Monday mornings. I was there both days till 10:30. I was throwing a Manns Baby 1 Minus no more than 10 feet off the bank and they were hammering that bait. Had several catfish straighten out the hooks! Caught bass on soft plastics, spinnerbaits, T-rigged craws, and crankbaits. Most of the bass I caught were short and vary fat. Several had shad in their throats.

Good Luck

White Rock is such a fun little LMB fishery. Shame so many people ignore it!

My thoughts exactly. I certainly haven't caught a state record there but usually always find fish in the 1-3 lb range. It makes for a fun day of fishing at least.

I fished WR a lot last year when I lived in the village. Once you get up into the river you'll almost forget you're still inside Dallas' city limits. Never caught any huge bass, but for the most part they were all fat healthy chunks. The water clarity fluctuates a LOT due to all the rain and run off. There is a ramp on both south and north ends of the lake, and I was able to catch plenty of fish on both ends. With the 9.9 HP limit I never really got to fish much in the middle of the lake. The deepest water I ever found on WR was in the first major bend up the river. Here is nice example of a healthy White Rock chatter bait chunk I caught last year.

yes, I do it all the time.
Remember you can not use the motor at all. That means launching and loading. If it is windy it can be very difficult to load the boat with the trolling motor only. Most ramps face the south wind. It against the law to wade in the lake, so you cannot wade out on the ramp to line up the boat onto the trailer in the wind.

meP2too is correct. No motors over 9.9HP are allowed at any times. Swimming and wading are also prohibited in White Rock Lake. The ramps are not very steep, and there are nice docks on the north end to tie up to. If your trolling motor works, and you arent trying to load the boat with a strong cross wind it isn't that difficult. I never needed it, but you could just tie a long rope to your trailer to help you line your boat up as you're putting it back on the trailer. Don't bother trying to take your boat to WR on any type of national holiday. It's almost guaranteed that there will be people parked in front of the boat ramps.
