This, and pretty sure it's all an act anyways.

is it ok to punch holes in the wall with your fists because your daughter drives you crazy?

I've been staying away from this because I don't have kids. I can't begin to say what is wrong or right. I understand where he's coming from. Those of us who are grown up and are of the age to have kids - especially in the country - know that kind of nonsense would have gotten our butts blistered.. and it doesn't matter how old we were.

I think his temper got away from him. I think he's a moron for destroying a tool. I think that kids are spoiled rotten today.

And I think its none of our business how he wants to raise his child.

YouTube seems to bring the best and worst out in some people. Why does someone think it is a good idea to post disfunctional family actions for millions of people to see? I would suggest he did more damage to his daughter in those short minutes than he can possibly repair in a lifetime.

Parents must lead by example. I'd say the girl's actions are a result of examples like this one.

The kid's lucky her dad ain't a judge with little man syndrome. nuts

Opinions are like... well, everyone has one. This all comes around to "I'm a better parent than x, or I would never spank my child, or I take the Ward Cleaver approach.

It will be different for each and every family and each and every child. Apart from true abuse either verbal or physical, how you raise your child is your business alone. There is no cookie cutter recipe for raising a child. Some children respond to a Ward Cleaver conversation, some need their arse reddened on occassion. Of course try the Ward Cleaver first, if it works, fine. Still as a Dad, you have to do what you think is right and whatever it takes to get your point across (again without physical or mental abuse) to keep your child on the straight and narrow so they have a chance to become productive self respecting members of society. This guy only used a dramatic youtube video to tell his daughter that he means business. No animals were hurt in the process. Apparently youtube and facebook are the media of choice today.

Let's look at the fine example that was displayed in the video the little gal has to look up to her whole life:

Litterer
Smoker
Over reactive
Divorce
Verbally abusive
Confrontational
Liar (does he own a clinic or does he work in IT; he can't keep it straight for the 5 minutes he's taping the video)
Controlling
Manipulative
and general all around DB for handing down his old phone with a chitty battery and broken cord and then thinking she is ungrateful for wanting one that actually works.
Focused only on the dollar value of everything, nothing he's ticked off about he doesn't put a price on.

And he wonders why his little 16 y.o. princess is starting to rebel a bit.

He's just stating to smell the fart from the [censored] he's been dishing out for years is my guess.

I bet that seemed like a good idea at the time. I don't know, not something I would do. The Bible says to correct people out of kindness, so your love for them is apparent. Parenting or Dad is the spiritual leader of the home:

Second Timothy 2 describes the kind of person fit for leadership. Those who want to become leaders should ask God to develop these traits in them: honesty, kindness, patience, purity, and integrity. Verses 24-25 explain:

The Lord's servants must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone. They must be able to teach effectively and be patient with difficult people. They should gently teach those who oppose the truth.

Perfect.

he invited everyone to judge his parenting when he posted that to youtube. He was doing it for the 15 minutes he was hoping to get (and he got it) careful what you wish for.

This was my reaction. Take away the laptop--absulutely fine. Destroy it--still fine. Handle your child's discipline in a public manner with the intent of humiliating her--not fine. I see his reasoning--her disrespect was public, as well. But she's 15. He SHOULD be more mature than her. As has been said, her actions have been modelled, obviously.

He is a dumb arse. He will never gain his daughters love or respect by posting his rant on Youtube and shooting up computers.
