They do but sometimes when they are repainted people don't put them on again. Not saying they have been painted but it's common.

I bought my truck last summer... 2005 Extended cab XLT, 45k miles, 4x4, for just under $17k. That was the best deal I was able to find with the 5.4l.

My requirements were: 5.4l, under 50k miles, 4x4, and no freaking bench seats in the front. Oh, and alloy wheels.

a buddy has the 4.6l and is really happy with it. he will tow a 22' bluewave with a t-top from SA to Rockport, it's not something he does often but he has done it.

I pulled my boat with a 4.6 for years, but the 5.4 is so much better. Even just for everyday driving. And I don't notice a difference in gas mileage really.

I'll have to test drive both to see. My 4.3 v6 is a little weak right now, but I just have a 17ft triton. My v6 gets awful gas mileage. 12-13 mpg. Thought it would be better being a v6. I figure if I'm getting that bad, might as well get a v8 with equal or better.

A 6 cylinder can get good milage in a smaller truck, but when it has to struggle pulling the heavier weight of a full size truck it will become a gas hog. I had a 6 cyl 4 door Tacoma (which was a great truck) and sold ot for an 09 Crew Cab with a 5.3 V8. The 5.3 gets better mileage than the 6 cyl Tacoma.

Why not buy a 2wd drive truck. Get more bang for your buck so to speak. Then buy a cheap 4 wheeler/atv for the lease.

They might be like me and take most emblems off for a cleaner look. My truck had six seperate emblems on the tailgate when I got it. I have always thought less is more.

Meh. The one time you need it, it's worth it. A 4wheeler costs more than 4wd on a used truck anyways.

And 4x4 trucks look better.

I have an atv, but it's a hassle when trying to drag stands around and carrying corn. It's also hard to carry a feeder and a 4 wheeler and corn in the back of the truck with 4 wheeler ramps stuck in there too. I would do that if I had a place at the lease that I could leave the 4 wheeler.

Jacob, I had a 2000 Sierra reg cab and then bought a low-mileage 2000 Silverado ext cab, and both of them got awesome gas mileage and didn't even know my boat was behind it. I also have a 17' Triton and they probably didn't do any better than 13-14 towing. But I got 20 mpg from both of them on pure highway trips (pre-10%-ethanol days). You'll have a tough time beating that old 4.3L as far as V6's go. Yes, the V8 will be an upgrade for towing power, but I wouldn't count on getting much better than 14-15 mpg towing a glass boat with any V8 in a half ton, which shouldn't make much difference from what you're getting with your 4.3L unless you're towing your boat every day. I've got a 2004 Silverado with the 5.3L right now and get about 14 mpg towing.

Basshoooke'm, what kind of mileage were you getting in that tacoma? That's terrible that your 5.3L is doing better. I got considerably better mileage with my 4.3L than I'm getting now in my 5.3L. And as for towing a 17' boat, there honestly isn't much difference because that 4.3L did so well. Now, the 5.3L will certainly get to 60 mph a lot quicker!

I don't want to get too far off topic here, but if you only use 4x4 on the lease, buy a 4-wheeler. 4x4s cost more to buy, more to maintain, more to fill up and break down more often. They're more trouble than they're worth if you only need it for a specific use that a 4-wheeler can fulfill. Just my $.02

That being said, stay away from the Chevy push-button 4x4 if you do decide that you want 4x4 in your pickup. I'd go with a Ford if I wanted 4x4.

I was getting about 19 highway and 15 to 16 in the City with the Crew Cab Tacoma V6, and will get about 20 highway and about 15 in the City with my 09 5.3 V8 Crew Cab. The Tacoma was a great little truck, but when it comes down to it I was not really doing great on gas, and a full size 4 door has much more room, and payload capacity.

Just drove by to look at the White one. It's sold. I'm gonna try to look at the black one sometime this week.

Basshook'em, yeah I love the crew cab and payload capacity of the bigger truck too. I guess, of those two, I'm more surprised you're getting 20 mpg with the 5.3L V8 crew cab half ton than I am about your 19 mpg with the light duty V6. I have a silverado crew cab half ton with the 5.3L and I'm getting about 17 pure highway, 15-16 everywhere else. Do you think it's the AFM making the difference or the rear axle or what? Mine has the 3.73.

The AFM makes a huge difference when on the highway and using the cruise control. Last spring and summer I was making a bunch of trips to Kansas for work, and that was when I really started paying attention to my highway gas milage. I'm not sure what gear ratio mine is but if I think about it I'll check tomorrow.

Just checked and my gear ratio is 3.42, and the 6 speed auto transmission probably helps out a bit too. I'm not 100% sure but I think 09 may have been the first year for the 6 speed auto trans.
