I just bought a new boat and I'm looking into getting back into the game, been in the hunting game for the past few years now it's time to get back on the water, anyone hear anything about Braunig or Calaveras? I live near these lakes and would like to hit them this spring, does anyone recommend any spots or baits?

Get a cast net catch some fresh shad nothing better then that ! You will find cats almost everywhere at cali specially after weather warms up a bit.

What are you targeting? Cats, Stripers, Crappie, Bass, etc?

I'm hoping to get on some good sized reds or strippers.

I have fished both lakes. I prefer Calaveras because I'm more succesful there, and I can catch a bigger variety of fish. I caught this big red last week, and my wife caught enough catfish for a fishfry (all from under the RR bridge). Also, if I had been by myself, I would've run over to two fishing frenzies that I saw(with lots of birds diving for the shad), and I'm sure I would've caught bass,....or something:

Does Sugars charge a launch fee? Lol I was wondering that was, but did'nt get it till later, good one....Have not seen striper action like I use to see in the early 90's.

I don't think so as long as you go early.

i love going to the wall at cali. and i hear strippers are going good at braunig on chicken liver right now. its mostly cat season right now, they are fun to catch while waiting for the red to start blowing up again

idk about stripers but the hybrids seem to be good at brauning. theres some decent bass at cali. buddy caught an 8 lbr off the wall last year nice fish. brauning i cant get a bite at braunig but if u put jugs out at night with palm size perch when it warms up youll catch some 20" plus cats. i work with a guy who fishes braunig on weds. hes says he has good luck with yeh mon bait for reds. idk just my 2 cents.
