Ate at Stiles Switch while down in Austin this week. New BBQ joint. Brisket was very nice and tender, jalapeno sausage was nicely spicy and tasty, the turkey was juicy and delicious, and the beef ribs were good, but a little over-done. The sauce was nicely tangy, not too sweet. The mac-and-cheese side had potential, but had obviously been setting waaaay too long, leaving it dry and crunchy. Some good local brews on tap. All in all, B+.
Now for the greatness of
Gourdough's. This is a donut stand in one of the Airstream trailers down on 1st. They are open in the morning and evening (probably to cater to the drunken crowd). They make the most insanely amazing donuts on the planet, with toppings ranging from heaping piles of chocolate or cream cheese sprinkled with Heath bar to bacon/maple or even chicken. Sounds crazy, but it was just crazy GREAT! Had the Blackout (seen below), which was a freshly made beast covered with more chocolate than a normal person would eat in a month. I give this joint my highest rating--A+++. Somebody PLEASE bring one of these to Ft. Worth!!
