Just wondering might be interseted myself.
There is a local bass club that I use fish out of with my bass boat. They fish all over the north Texas area. I've already got the good to go from the gentlemen running it that kayaks were fine to use. It's not going to be cheap, but it will give me a place to start.
I have wondered if anyone has competed agains boats from a kayak. I always thought it would be a win/win. How would you feel to drop $50 in gas in a $35K boat and get beat by a guy in a kayak.
I can tell you exactly how it will go. Very good as long as you are contributing to the pot and not winning. Local chapter type bass events will welcome yaks as long as we don't put the gas burners off the podium ( cash).
If the tourney is a big buck or regional one, it is funded by boat and motor manufacturers and they will quickly change the tourney to prevent embarrassment once it happens. there will be a separate event for kayaks after completing the tourney for "real boats" as it was put in one press release three years ago on the coast.
take a look at the history of the national tournament series that have separate PB and Yak tourneys and ask: " why don't they let them fish together" and how did they get separated the first place?"
I "side fished" several major tourneys where I stood by the weigh in line with a stringer that would have put me on the podium and pointed out to anyone that was interested that I was not allowed to compete because I was in a kayak. The competitors were never the problem, the sponsors / organizers were.
the only clubs that had been truly welcoming so far have been the Crappie organisations. Since they are team tournaments and it is $100 a team to fish I lost interest after 3 years of not finding a single person that would fish with me. I sandbagged the first year just to get a feel for the events and make a few friends. That was a mistake. I got a partner for the second year and his health kept him from paddling after the first event. this last year my own health had me shut down for quite a while, but i still made the gesture a couple of times.
I don't pretend to know squat about bass fishing, but it sounds like it might be a simpler ( more fun) tourney trail to do since it is not team fishing.
