i am further north but depending on depth, water clarity and total surface acres it can vary. right now i have been catching some really shallow pre spawn area type fish and have heard of bass on beds already but with the coldest weather of the year still to come and most waters still low i would say that this year we will have a spawn/ prespawn going from now until end of april.

Right now is the time to catch Big Bass with less effort. It's called the pre spawn.
They are easier to catch before they get on the beds. To find them look for deep creeks that run near sandy or hard bank points. Some of my best spots over the years have been deep creek with eight to ten ft of water on the point side with good brush then five feet jump to the point. The big sows will be hanging in the mid break eating gizzard shad. Baits of choice...Big Crank Bait coach dog color Black back chartruese sides and orange belly reeled as fast as you can reel it in the mid depth. On other days a jig and pig will do the trick. Sometimes both work the same day. Crank Bait when they are running those big shad and jig when they settle down into the brush. I have caught literally hundreds of big bass doing this in February and even into march.
