Had no idea it was that deep there.
Always tried for the easy sunfish so close to the top you could see them.

I watched about 10 come out of the crack on friday in about an hour and a half...probably 3 or 4 were keepers. They were also killing them on the outside(right side from front door walking in) on friday. I tend to prefer the nice controlled climate of the inside wells. I dont go to catch dinner, just to relax and listen to the old locals discuss whatever is on their minds...like the bigfoot conversation I heard last week...but thats just me.

No matter what barge I fish you always run across interesting individuals. Fishing is my stress relief! Even if it's just a few hours.

Fishing this morning was well SLOW!!!!
I got the you should have been here yesterday GOD I HATE THAT lol yesterday in the evening I was told that the bite was on.
Anyway I was at the barge at 3:30am to 11:00am got one keeper and 3 Dinks
for the most part that was good one guy had 5 keepers and not in a spot that you would think that would be the case.
This was looking like a good day for fishing at the barge but not the case.
I did see one BIG bass and I did say BIG bass in the water. Oh that would have been fun on a crappie rig pole and 6 lb test line. LOL

That well on the right and the "crack" outside have been the best crappie spots on that barge since the early '70's, lol. We also caught a bunch of crappie during the winter months fishing under crappie lights outside on the farthest northeast corner (there use to be a small storage building right there). Dang we spent some cold night in several layers of clothes and a wrapped in a blanket too. Sometimes the sandbass would move in and we would add to our catch with those. Also, when you are at "the crack" and the walkway turns back right (facing the shoreline), we would catch a lot of crappie there too using crappie lights. I haven't been there since the early 80's to fish. Might have to drag my kids out sometime for old time sake. We also caught a lot of carp there in the summer months, that was always fun. My parents would drop my brother and I off for several hours on a Sunday afternoon.

You are right on Scott! I was there every minute I could way back then... you and I were there at the same times and fishing the same spots for sure. Sometimes I spent all weekend there sleeping out in my chair by the rail at times with my hand on my rods balanced on the chair across the rail and tied off just to be safe. As you said, never know when those Sandies would start running in the middle of the night, then I would switch and catch them a while. I really miss that place, and I have not been there in many years. I remember too being all wrapped in a blanket with nothing but my eyes showing watching my rod. At least one SuperBowl I spent inside fishing the wells watching the game. Oh the memories. thumb

jigs were not working inside today. i tried a black/grey minnow jig and a black pink garland jig too. only caught on minnows. a guy was catching on jigs outside though, think he said he was fishing with a blue ice colored jig.
