I have a new dodge dually crew cab and it doesnt get the mileage my 2001 f350 does. The guy saying he gets 14 mpg with a 30 ft camper was definatly coasting downhill and not on the gas. All i have ever driven was diesels and i would get the duramax if i had another 12,000 dollars. The only reason i bought a dodge is cause i didnt want to deal with the urea bag.

I had an 2010 dodge 1-ton, the truck was a beast, power was unreal. I know comparing my 2010 cumins to my dad and brothers 04 and 05 duramaxes isnt a true apples to apples comparison, but there was literaly no comparison between the two. It was a 3500 srw 4x4 crew cab long bed and got 17 on the hwy and 15-16 back and forth to work. I got rid of the need for the truck and got rid of the truck. If you chop the DPF and EGR and chip it milleage is very comparable to the 5.9's. matt

How big and how much does the 5th wheel weigh?
How often do you realy use it?
The 6.2 is in the 1/2 tons only. I dont think the 6.0 will have any trouble doing what you need to do. Diesel vehicles will cost more to purchase, more to maintian, and more to feed. If you have a need for one they are unbeatable, otherwise they are an expensive hobby.
matt It is 33' and 10,000 #+. I am looking at selling it and getting a cab over. If you are going to be pulling that camper on a regular basis I think you should go with a 3/4 ton truck for the suspension alone. The 6.2 would likely pull it just fine, but if I was buying a truck for that job, a 1/2 ton isnt what I would buy. And uncle of mine just bought a gas 3/4 ton chevy said he got 15 to 16 out of it, then he added front and rear replacements and a 285's mpgs is down to 12 or so. matt

Both engines are great but whatever you get make sure you get a allison trans. It helps alot with the pulling since it is a six gear trans.

Steve I bought a 2012 D Max last November. If you are pulling that much I would definitely go with the D Max for power. I'm fixing to replace the exhaust and get rid of the urea along with installing a cold air intake. It's fixing to run like a diesel should.

I think I am leaning towards the Duramax. Might be in the market soon. Best pricing? Monte Coon? If you do, get you one of these. PPE My roomate has the PPE hot+2 in his 2011 Duramax and get's 20-21 on the highway. Around 15 MPGs hauling his dad's Ranger.

More so then the on paper hp/ftlb specs would suggest. Of course big jump again in '11. Me, I'll sacrifice some power for one that has been paid off .
