I'd be careful taking it in a boat. I did something very similar with just the slotted flambeau box and some styrofoam. Worked great at home, but first rough ride across the lake and it looked like a grenade had went off inside of it. I've thought since then about stepping up the foam to a harder more firm material like the stuff they use on pool noodles. Let us know how they work for ya
