Hey Grout-Scott: More good info. Both the 8 and the 10 have two NMEA183 connections so I can use this antenna. Also says the NMEA 2000 is 50 times faster than the 183 !! I might try it however as it doesn't cost anything. Just to see how it works. It was super fast on the globalmap and if it works on my HDS8 it sure is cheaper than a $200 4000 plus $50 for the buss. I think these antennas are about $50 on ebay if you have to buy one. If I do it I will post the results. CD

Hi Jsplinter - Yes, these things are amazing. Now I need to learn how to interprit what it's showing me. I see lots of fish on deep structure but don't know how to interprit what I'm seeing. Could somebody please post some pics of what they think is deep water bass or suspended bass ? Sure would help. CD

I can tell you what crappie looks like, have you checked out bassboatcentral? They have alot of information. Also it looks like most topic area in the freshwater fishing is getting an image interpretation sticky so keep an eye on those.

Another Question About HDS-7 & Elite-5X-DSI ? ? ?

If I were to put both of these Units on my Bow, with both Transducers on my Trolling Motor would I get interfernece from the Units trying to read each others signals ? ? ?

Don't need to spend $500, only to find that I can't use the units like I want to.

I have Elite 4X DSI on transom, Eagle 642C on transom & HDS 5X Gen2 on bow----HDS & Eagle interfere with each other but DSI interferes with neither. Think the DSI use much higher frequency than standard sonar.

Hi Kerry - I decided to take your advice and go with the LGC- 4000. That way I'll have the NMEA buss if I want to put something else on it. Problem is : I can't find anywhere that has the starter kit in stock. Any suggestions anybody ? CD

Any tips on the settings for the structure scan.
The water column on mine is very cluttered. I've just started using it so I'm a long way from learning it completely. My side imaging looks really good. Contrast is set at 70%. Range is set at 60ft to both sides. I have the surface clarity on low and the noise reduction is on.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll get it dialed in after a few trips.

Hi - Well, getting there. Here is a pic of a sunken road 15 ft to the roadbed. There is a square culvert running under it. Sorrounding bottem is 20-25 ft. I dropped a perch on the culvert and caught a nice 5 lb channel cat. I am impressed with the SI. Looking at the pic, the side to side angle is at least 90 deg !! dale

This is what worked for me:I am also a beginner but this is working for me. CD

- make sure your transducer is level when you are ideling. Very very important.

- I think my surface clarity is set low but would have to check.

- these things are super sensitive so I have my sens set at I think 15. Maybe even lower.

- set the distance to higher than the water depth. You can see in the pic mine was not as high as it should have been.

I have upgraded to the HDS 7. Last weekend i tried to delete all the existing trails. It worked but, now it leaves no trails and i wasn't able to figure out how to turn them back on. Thanks for any help.

this is really a newby question:

Say you have a HDS-8 on the dash and a HDS-7 on the trolling motor with the display on the bow. Both on the eithernet. What displays what ? Can you get the 7 (front one) to display on the 8 on the dash and vis versa ?. Or both on a split screen. How does having both on a buss work.? CD

I'm sorry, I meant to say both connected to the NMEA 2000 buss not the eithernet buss. cd

Hey jsplinter - looking at your post again it seems to me you have it set pretty good. I would look at the sensitivity and set it low and check that out. Also, water flow (bubbles etc) past the transducer can cause the surface to be messed up. Try setting your upper limit to say 5 ft and the bottom whereever you want it. It then will not show surfact to five feet, just five feet to the bottom. Just MTCW CD

I have looked in all my manuals and can not find the answer to thyis question:

How can I get the HDS-8 to display the coordinates on the bottom left corner of the screen when I am in SI or sonar mode only ?

Never thought about trying the lower the upper limit. I'll have to try that. I'm still getting alot of clutter in the water column which I'd bet is coming from my boat. It has flotation pods on the rear which I think is creating this.
