Just moved out here and not sure how to get started. I would love to find a place I could get a mess of good crappie. Any catfish suggestions would be appreciated too...tried under the 78 bridge for a while tonight...too much junk coming through with current it seemed. Got my first gar on r&r though. Haven't tried right at the damn, but iv watched...haven't seen much of anything of any size coming out. Talked to a couple of people who claim to know the bankfishing crappie/catfish secrets around here, but were unwilling to help a new guy out. Live in GH and would love to have close access to some decent fishing. Won't have boat up here for another couple of months, so have to stick to bank for now. Any suggestions for below the dam or elsewhere would be very much appreciated! Willing to join someone when possible. Thanks in advance!!

crappie- find the slack water and (my opinion) use 4 lb line. small cork bobber 1/32 oz jig head. minnow or soft plastic jig body in pearl or blk/chart. this time of year, 3 ft downish

cats- fresh shad/ live shad/ live gills/ liver/worms, will work on or near the bottom.

Hey RIttu66. Just so happens I will be moving out that way around the end of the month. Also moving to GH and I am in the same situation as you. Love to crappie fish, so close to Lake Lavon and Ray Hubbard, but don't know where to go get them. Unlike you, I dont have a boat and stuck to the bank. Maybe we can get together and hit them up sometime. Nothing like having a fishing buddy a couple of blocks away. Let me know.

i was just at the gates fishing 2-3feet deep, got me some nice slabs

also wade the trees with a cork and jig.... the crappie move in the shallows to feed at these temps in the main lake.
