You are gonna get about a hundred different answers. In the end it's all about your own personal preference. I use a jig rod I like and it's not necessarily the same jig rod my buddy uses. Neither of us is wrong, it's just what fits us as an individual. Same thing with Jigs, everyone has their own unique preferences.

When I'm working with people learning to jig fish, the first thing I tell them is quit paying too much attention to how I'm working my jig. Figure out your own style and what works for you. No two Worm fisherman shake or hop their worm the same and neither do jig fisherman wink Confidence, confidence, confidence.

Now that's out of the way wink

Rod, typically you are gonna want a heavy rod with a fast tip, some even prefer and extra fast tip. On a really stiff rod you want some give on the tip for two reasons, it makes it easier to pitch and it gives you a little leeway when testing to see if a fish is there. If you've got no tip, there is less give, the fish will feel that better. Length of rod is more subjective, typically the longer the rod the more leverage you have to horse the fish out. But......If you are in really, really thick stuff where it's hard to cast you may switch down to a 6 foot rod to make it easier to get under and around all the limbs.

On the Jig generally you want a thick stout hook and a thick stout fiber guard. Heavy cover like wood you want an Arkie style head, Grass is a different head with a narrow taper in the front.

Yes, I own a jig company, but I'm not soliciting you, use whoever you want smile

Dobyns Rods makes several awesome rods for this application, my favorite is the 805 FLIP/PUNCH. This model has a sensitive tip yet, the action allows it to load up quickly giving you an excellent hookset and backbone to turn and land the fish. The 8' length allows you to Flip effortlessly. I can't say enough good things about this rod.

Here are the specs:

cork-full 805FLIP/PUNCH 8' 1pc. 15-30lb, 3/8-2oz, Hvy Flip Fast Action Flippin' Stick, Heavy Grass & Punchin' $239.99

Hope this helps and good fishin' to ya'

I use all Falcon Lowriders and Caras just because they seem to fit me better than anything I have tried. The jig rod is a CC6-17H-T7 with a BPS JMX-10SHA reel 7.1 ratio with Fluoro. Again this what I like. They make a good entry level rods called the "original", these are what my wife uses all the time and they just came out with a new model called a BuCoo series, these are around 100.00. Even though there are hundreds of possibilites and models to choose from, the one constant factor for me is the reel, I HAVE to have a 7.1 reel. If I am fishing the nastiest, thickest, briar infested, beat the gators off of you, buckbrush, like a couple places on Rayburn I know, when those fish start to come my way I want to be able to keep up.....

Good luck hope this helps

I like the Powell line of rods, maybe a 704 $139 or for really heavy stuff the 766 $169. Lots of really good rod companies in your under $200 range.

Joefishin knows his stuff regarding jigs and makes a fine product. The SpitNFire jigs are the ones I use for most applications. I tested some Dirty Jigs awhile back and they have a seriously stout hook if you are working dense cover with braid or target really large bass.

20 lb flourocarbon, and find a jig company that makes the heads and hooks you prefer...

For me Spitfire, and my homemade jigs are all I tie on

CastAway XP3 7'6 Flippin' Stick.

Ordered it from the factory, and was around $169 with shipping.

I use a BPS Cranking Stick and love it. Stout body and limber tip. Works good.
