Recently I went to a fishing place near my house, Olmos Park. There were schools of pumpkinseeds and bluegill with the occaisional bass, koi, and turtle. First I used a powerbait worm and immediately got multiple strikes but no hookset. Next a sage guru appeared, gave me some bait, and showed me how to rig a bobber. I casted, and a fish immediately took it but did no set the hook. Next i caught a monster pumpkinseed, the only one caught that day even though I had many fish take the worm. How to hook a worm?

I assume you are talking live worms here. You need a long shank hook and then you pretty much thread the worm from one end on to the hook to cover it up to the eye, then pinch it off leaving about 1/2" hanging off the point. If you leave too much hanging the little guys will suck it right off the hook before you can react. Good luck and tight lines.

I came back today and used a soft plastic and caught several. Same as last time, I set the hook on about 1/20 of the strikes.
However, it was the first time I ever caught anything on a soft plastic. Quite a big step for me. I think it was because the worm was covering the point of the hook.

and anyways, I swear they were pumpkinseed that I was catching, but their range doesn't extend all the way down here.
