An extremely long drive and they are extremely hard to find. I wouldn't go if I were you!

I'm right off 360 and 287 in Ellis County. It is 97 miles from my driveway to the boat ramp @ Fairfield, and it is every bit of an hour and half drive to get there, often times almost two hours. Having said that... We go often and I HIGHLY recommend the trip if you have never been. As far as the BG, it is actually a great lake for it. The southeast corner of the dam and main lake is good area and also near the cattails across from the ramp. Hope this helps.

Is shore fishing available? I'd like to take my fly rod down there...I too live next to the airport. Carpool anyone?

There are a few decent areas to shore fish, but it is in EAST Texas. Lot's of trees... You might try the point just east of the swimming area. You could also go around to the camping areas and access some good bank fishing. It's a beautiful lake and park...well worth the drive.

Well with the price of gas (there is no icon for taking it in the A#$) but this works . I was thanking about taking my kayak down there to do a little BG fishing. The truck gets a little better mileage with a kayak in it rather than I big bassboat. Is this lake to big for a kayak or do yall thank it will work well.

Kayaks great on Fairfield, I have taken the float tube out there a couple of times, even caught redfish out of the float tube.

Guys, I'd like to go down there...just like already mentioned...gas is outrageous at the moment. I don't have a boat, but am definitely willing to kick in for gas. I'd like to break out my fly rod.
Any takers?
