Spoke with a friend that lives on the lake(okay, on the shore by the lake) and he reported that fishing for black bass, white bass, hybrids, and catfish is excellent whenever the weather permits. He said use caution since the thunderstorms seem to come up in a hurry. Lake is still fairly clear. He did say the hydrilla problem is getting worse.

Fished today on a Kayak NW of Scotts Ridge. Weather was great and the water/wind very calm.

This picture was taken at the same time as the first one just looking the other direction. Looks like a different day!

Had a great big blow up in this spot but not a bite.

Didn't catch much but the water was clear and the hydrilla is definitely in the shallows and sometimes in the middle of the lake! Lot's of fish hanging out in the Zilla but I couldn't find anything they wanted.

I trolled rattle traps, cranked deep, threw frogs in the shallows, senkos and carolina rigged. At least 10 blow ups on the frogs but they weren't bitting them just slapping. No other bites.

Still what a great day and I finally got my new yak wet!

Thanks. I still don't really know where the heck they are but I'll keep after them. I think it's a pretty tough lake but I've only fished it a few times.

Forever, I mostly fish north of the 1097 bridge for catfish and have a lot of good luck. With your rig, you could get amongst the stumps toward Cagle campgrounds and I think you would do great. Cagle is a state campground( or national, not sure) and it has good facilities with a good boat launch.

Catching cats on Conroe is tons of fun as that lake is loaded with them. I've also have caught whites, yellow bass and stripers pretty regularly on deep diving hell-pets. It's the LMBs I have had trouble finding/catching. I am familiar with Cagle and have actually fished the jungles across from the launch in a pb there as well as the shoreline north of the launch with out success.

Any tips on how to consistently catch LMB's on Conroe are always appreciated.

Lake Conroe has a lot of LMB fishing pressure. I hear of some good catches, but I really don't know anything about fishing for them.

Cagle is a great campsite. It's federally owned. The northside of Lake Conroe is pretty isolated with fewer jet fleas zooming by. I think the boat launch is great too, it puts you right near the most productive catfishing jungles on the lake.

Fished with a new buddy with a bass boat on Thursday and did pretty well considering we only actually fished about 1.5 hours.

My generous buddy Robert lands a small one but a good one.

FF gets one that really put some bend in my pole, pulled a bit of drag and gave us a couple of nice jumps. This one really had a tone of heart.

Sorry I can't share the locations but they weren't my fishing holes. They were towards the north side and were caught on weighted flukes. All together we caught 3 fish apiece and had a great time. Had to dodge some serious lightening and T-storms but that fast boat made it really easy. FUN!

Lake Conroe, in my opinion, is a great lake for fishing. Of course, being so close to Houston the weekends will be crowded and during the summer skiers, jet boaters, etc. dominate the lake. Thankfully, the northern end was left with a full forest of trees that the pleasure boaters mostly avoid.

True that divingcat. I've been to Conroe a lot but only to the northern part twice. I had to abandon night fishing because, as I made my way to the spot I wanted, I hit numerous submerged logs and I gave up. I'm in a cheaper aluminum boat and I would have had a heart attack if I was in a $50K fiberglass runabout!

I am going to Lake Conroe tomorrow just for a visit and to see how the fishing has been the past couple of weeks. I know that the water temperature has risen significally since the rains stopped. Will update tomorrow night.

I went to Lake Conroe yesterday( Saturday ) and spoke with some fishermen at Stow-Away marina. According to them, so very nice black bass were taken in the early morning this past Thursday. However, not much happening in the evening.
Catfishermen have told me that the fishing has really slowed down. Again, early morning has seemed to produce the best catches on rod and reel. I did speak with a jugliner that said he caught 5 blues up to 7lbs one night during the week. He said you must stay with your jugs. He uses flagging jugs and he said he runs them as soon as they flag. If you do not do so, you will end up with dead catfish.

Fished conroe from the bank on the south side for about 45 minutes and caught this guy on some ultra light gear with heavy line.

Weighed in at just over 4lbs. Pic shows the lure.

Nice fish. I was at lake Conroe yesterday and I talked with several people who told me the fishing is slow. However, I noticed that the fishing report section of the Houston Chronicle how a report from a guide out of Stow-Away marina who said the fishing is good. Guess that means if you know where to fish, it is good; if not, not so good.
