Welded 1" sqr tube to 10 Ga. plate and mounted to boat (used 2 1" dia flat washers as backup plates for each of 4 1/4-20 machine bolts with locking nuts). Then had 10 Ga plate welded to .875 sqr tube that would insert into the 1" sqr tube. Drilled 1/4" hole thru tubing to insert a 1/4" x 1-1/4" long cotterless hitch pin to secure inner tube inside outer tube. Mounted my Down East rod holders to the plate with the 7/8" sqr tube. Use a rubber chair leg end cap to cover the boat mounted tube when it's not in use. The hitch pin is needed so when you pull straight up on the rod to take it out of the rod holder, the entire insert assembly doesn't come out with the rod. The pin also takes out any twist between the inner and outer tubes (pull pressure from a fish on situation). Have four of them now mounted on the new boat. Ready for trolling season.
