I usually kayak over wading, but Christmas bay is wade friendly. Mostly hard sand with some mud here and there. Dolphin drive might be the easiest access point.

Drum bay is softer bottomed. The mid bay launch has some firm footing up against the shore there.

People wade around San Luis Pass, but I would not recommend that. Crazy dropoffs and impossible currents claim a few lives every year. Same story for the mouth of Brazos River. West galveston bay is just across the pass bridge.

If the surf is relatively calm and the water relatively green (vs. brown) hit the beachfront at dawn and dusk. Lot's of access points between Surfside and San Luis Pass. Live shrimp available at bait stands just north of Surfside and at the Bright Light convenience store on the southwest side of San Luis Pass. And be sure to hit the Red Snapper Inn in Surfside - best fish po-boy around (made with snapper), but only available at lunch.

I was there middle of last week, beach day with the family, and fished on and off between 1-3. Surf was tough, water brownish, because of churn. Got some sea lice hitting us too.
Not a whole lot of bites, small whiting and 2 rat reds, all of them on fishbites.
If hitting the bay, you can cast artificials or cast net for mullet in the San Luis Pass area, either side of the pass.
