Louisiana Redfish Info.

Louisiana Redfish Info. - 05/27/16 10:17 PM

I'm going to be in New Orleans in late October. I've always wanted to go red fishing in Louisisana but I don't have any idea where to begin. Does anybody have any recommendations as far as places to stay, guides, etc. Also, how close is NO to these areas? Is it close enough for a day trip? Any info/recs would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Grand Isle is a great location all year long, but it's a bit far for a day trip, about 2.5 hours away.

There are some inshore areas that are closer, but the productivity depends on time of year, salinity, tides, fronts, etc.

The guides will almost always tell you that the fish are on fire right now, even if they are not really biting.

SW LA is usually the better bet. The guides are more honest, and the fishing is better.

Make the Run down to Venice. Some of the best fishing in the world. It is close enough for a day trip or you can get on VBRO.com and rent one of the many house boats that are down there.

I have always stayed downtown at the Casino and gone to Delacroix or Shell Beach,
only 45 minutes at 4 am , sometime a bit longer coming back ( traffic).

Give Captain Jeff Dauzat a call

Matt,

There are plenty of Guides local in New Orleans you can go with.

Bayou Charters fishes my favorite spot, Hopedale LA and October is perfect for Reds.

If he's booked and you can't get with Finandfeatherguide, check out these other two:

If their prices are to high for you, you can call other guides that are listed here:

Venice is amazing and although I have never taken a guide there, I have bass fished there many times with my father and we always run into plenty of reds and flounder while bass fishing, so I know if you were strictly fishing for redfish you'd be all over them.

Not sure if you are a fly fisher, but if you are, give Lucas Bissett at Low Tide Charters a call. He will put you on the fish in the New Orleans/Venice/Delacroix area.
