So I dont go to the coast often but our family decided to take a vacation down there. I haven't fished at the coast in my life but I do bass fish all the time and I have heard red fish are similar to bass? Basically i'm completely new to the redfishing thing and need help! so any tips or rigs or advice you have would be greatly appreciated!!

I grew up fishing an oxbow lake for LMB. Redfish are a lot like LMB. They both are found around structure. I don't know where you plan on going, but reds are often near oyster reefs, grassy shorelines, marsh drains. Lots of ways to fish for them. Bouncing off the bottom a 1/16 oz or 1/8 oz jig head primed with a paddle tail is a favorite. Lots of topwaters work. So do spinners, spoons, wake baits, flies. Most marshes are pretty reliable this time of year.

Same line, reel, Rod you used for LMB ought to work for reds. Kayaks are good to get into redfish country, but you can find them in wade in areas too. Find some points, coves, wind blown shorelines. High water sends many way up in the grass. Fish shell near the grass if the water is really high. Low water sometimes concentrates them in guts and drains. Lots of peopke like gulp under a popping cork. Pop, wait, repeat.

If you could tie a rope around a 5lb red's tail and tie the other to a 10lb Bass tail, the red would drag that bass around backwards all day long. Better eating too.

If you want to know how to catch reds in the gulf you should visit Trout Support dot com and buy their DVD sets on catching reds. They also have DVD's on trout as well since you will find trout with reds sometimes. The DVD's have been invaluable to me and I go back and watch them often to hone the skills the DVD provides. It tells you how to find them and how to catch them.
You will not regret this purchase I guarantee!
