Too windy for Rockport Saturday?

Too windy for Rockport Saturday? - 11/05/15 05:10 PM

I'm new to fishing the Rockport area. I was planning to come down and fish Saturday but am now seeing fcsts for 20-30 winds from the north. Looking for input on whether it is still worth making the trip and whether I can find safe and fishable water...I run a 21'JH. Thinking that if I stay close to shore on the ICW I may be somewhat sheltered, but it sounds like the wind will really be ripping...
Thanks

Rain forecast for Fri// into Sat this weekend ... I'll get an update on the noon news/weather ... looking at making a quick wade at sunset this evening at low tide, looking for some flounder to go with some trout.

I can handle rain, not a fan of lightning. Would love to get out Saturday if its safe and fishable but also hate to waste a drive down from Austin. I would be fishing out of Cove Harbor.

Yeah, really dicey conditions. I've been kayak fishing around there recently, and have seen lots of tailing reds. I got a couple of slots last week in the lagoon at Talley Island, north end of Estes Cove. If you can get down the channel from Cove Harbor and out toward Turtle Cove and duck in the lagoon, you'd be sorta out of the wind. The bait shop guy said the guides were only getting reds on live mullet. Not having a live well, I bought some (previously live) frozen mullet from him. I got one slot on that and one on a gold spoon. Not sure what the wind will do for the bite. Of course, starting Monday, it's supposed to be really, really nice, light winds and sunny. Good luck and be careful.

Wind and rain, that's a hard call but I hate to cancel fishing trips because of the weather sometimes when you cancel it ends up being a decent day and sometimes it truely is a bad day. I am not very knowledgable of the Rckport area, if you can find some decent cover like the ICW or a protected shoreline you should be able to find some fish. I've had some really good catches on super windy days when other's would stay at home. If all else fails go Sunday it should be a little better day.
