I want to fish the Freeport jetty for reds, trout, flounder, and smacks. Anybody know what bites this time of year and what on? Also, how far do I have to go out? What baits? Thank you in advance.

Everything is biting, that's not the purpose of this response.

Have you experience fishing the jetties? Gotta be a little careful, whatever length anchor line you've got, double it. A crewboat chugging past will throw a five foot wake that can and will swamp most boats if they are tethered too tightly. We see crunched boats all the time by people who just weren't paying attention, those rocks are just not forgiving.

I'll be on the jetty, don't have a boat

Mr. Goff there is dead on. We were down there about 3 weeks ago and we saw first hand exactly what he's saying. These guys were close to the rocks and a couple of tankers came by. Their boat swamped then was thrown into the rocks.

We use a Motorguide Xi5 with anchor lock and it really helps.
