Help with trip to Port O'Connor area

I got invited to stay at a friend's beach home in Indianola next weekend. My friend isn't much of a fisherman so he doesn't have many tips for me - I've also never caught a trout or redfish in my life. I was planning to take a few bass combos (6'6" and 7' M and MH baitcasters and spinning rigs) for lures plus a couple heavy catfish rods to drift. I'll be in my kayak most of the time and on the dock and shore the rest of it. As for lures and bait, I need advice. What should I stock up on for this time of year in that area?

1/8 oz jigheads with bass assasins or similar, spook topwaters, and 4-5" sassy shad baits will get you bit, you can paddle around powderhorn and find feeding reds.

Hey Pat, what kind of rod are you using with those lighter baits? Medium or Medium light?

Jig heads are thrown on a 7 1/2 ML TTF spinning rod with 20# power pro. Topwaters are a M 6 1/2 rod with 15# Ande back country mono on a casting rod.

Now, if I *KNOW* I'm in a flounder hole, it's on a MH rod, so I can stab the hook home, makes a big difference.

Everything plastic is used with oldham screw lock head and gamakatsu hook.

No leader, waste of time.

Yea, If I know I'm into Flounder it is a MH baitcaster or a H spinning rod.

Was down in PO 2 weeks back with a buddy and caught flounder off the PO pier with gulp and shrimp. Flounder are getting ready for the cold weather so they are moving in. If you want to try reds or trout you can try any of the jetties you can get to where there is current and try shrimp on bottom.
Bring some Gulp 4" swimming mullets in white and chartreuse and some 3" or 4" Gulp shrimp in new penny. All the fish love gulp and you can't go wrong if you can't find shrimp or live bait.
Your rods should be fine for reds as long as you have at least 30lb test (braid is better IMHO). Those bull reds can get big and put up a good fight. Broke a rod once reeling one in.
