Galveston Tips?

Galveston Tips? - 07/26/15 07:28 PM

Hey, I will be heading down to Galveston this coming up weekend to fish. I want to surf fish for sharks and any other species that might bite. Could someone tell me some good surf spots where I have a chance at hooking a shark. Also what type of rig do I need (rod and reel, line, rig)? Also, is there a pier where people consistently catch sharks. I don't mind catching other species, so other tips are welcome. Thanks

I think both piers people catch sharks, just depends on bait and set up. I prefer the Galveston Fishing Pier on 91st. For just regular size 10 inch 12 -14 inch kind of fish, just get a double drop steel saltwater rig from Academy and put a 3 or 4 oz. spider weight on it, use shrimp, squid, or fish bites, or a combination of and you will catch smaller size gafftop, croaker, and sea trout for example. Use a number 6 treble hook for these. I rarely go for the bigger fish, but plenty of the guys do at the end of the T, and can chime in.
