Offshore line question

Hey guys, it's been a good while. I've been overseas for the better part of the last 8 years, but I'm moving home to West Texas next month. I regularly fished offshore before I left, but I haven't been in a long time. I have several rods/reels that I'm sure will need cleaning, etc..., but I have a question about the line.

I'm 100% sure all the mono needs to be replaced, but all my heavier gear has braid backing. I'm assuming it likely needs to be replaced, but since it's somewhat expensive, I thought I'd ask.

Any thoughts?

Might be rotten from getting wet and reeled back on. I'd err to the side of caution and just replace it all.

CG, the advise given is sound if you want to be cautious.

That said, Casa Del TOO has two reels with 80 lb JB hollow core filled at least 10 years ago. Just transferred line from one reel to another reel last week and the line under the topshot was still good. SonTwo was hanging onto the end of the JB and with drag locked we held with as max pressure as I though the rod & reel would handle for at least 5 minutes overall. Line looked and felt as good as new.

Might consider taking the reel out to an area with enough room and run 100+ yds out, tie it off or have someone hold it and put some real stress on the line for 3-5 minutes. Trust me that 3-5 is long time to hold that tension but gives you some assurances.

Takes a little while but if you can do it pull all the line out, reverse the line on the reel and reel it back on under tension. That's always fun.
Done that with bay reels and offshore reels, but not all in one day. That's too much like work.
