Sore Abbs From Riding

Sore Abbs From Riding - 07/13/17 07:07 PM

Could it be? I've ridden twice this week, pretty hard, back to back mornings, and last night sometime after supper, set in one of the most agonizing stomach pains I've had in quite some time. Thought it might've been that I ate too much, but they're still sore today. I was in alot lower position and going a whole hell of a lot faster than I normally ride, but who'd thought that could happen. Weak core, maybe? Do I need to go on a sit-up kick or just keep riding when the opportunity arises?

Are you street riding or trail riding?
Street, you pretty much stay in the same position.
Trail, you are up and down, side to side, everything.

Should you do ab work/sit-ups o just ride more?

Both...

Street, but there is a bit of torso angle change between getting low in the drops, hands on the brake hoods, and being upright with your hands on the straight part of the bars. I switch between the first two for the most part, then get up and sprint hard out of turns or up a "hill". Been trying to keep my elbows bent down alittle also instead of locked or near locked so I imagine that's playing into it some as well.

Kind of think I'm approaching a point where my legs are doing all the can, and to maintain that level, is requiring using other muscles. hmmm

I got a new light yesterday so I'm going to go burn up the trail in the morning and see what happens afterwards.

Everything starts with the Core....Shaun T said that yesterday on GMA.

I do core specific exercises once a week....plus the standard core charge in swimming, biking, running. You work the core in all of those.

I was given some different workouts last week...thing I never have done. I was sore on the upper stomach, just below my chest. Guess I never worked that upper section. I was sore about 2-3 days. Most soreness I feel is 2 days later from a hard weigh lifting session.

Right below the chest is where I was sore. I think it is from riding though. I kind of experienced it this morning immediately after a real hard pull going into the final 5 miles of my ride. It's gone away for the time being, but I imagine I'll be sore later.

Really thinking about my form this morning, I noticed it all does start at your core, pushing and pulling with your arms tightening your abs then pushing/pulling with your legs. Sure you can do a easy spin where you're just pushing with you legs but hold a 20mph avg for an hour, you'll feel it. I'm whipped.

Holding your core tight for an hour (plus) will do it! I bet your form is fine.....just most likely working new muscles. Ones that were neglected the last few years. smile
