Name Your Injury... - 08/20/16 02:59 PM

Question...

Name your injury, and whatever that is, do you fight through it and continue your exercises?

I jacked up my back, (I do have a chiropractor) and it's messed up my workout program, mainly my squat thrusts.
If you read the OT, you know I was hired to work stunts in a huge haunted house, but I'm unsure about that.

What about you cats, do minor injuries/pain keep you still, or do you fight through it if possible?

Addendum: I hate feeling like I'm getting soft.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/20/16 05:35 PM

I wouldn't go see a chiro....I'd go find a massage therapist that had a clue. I have had way too many clients lately that have been injured (some severely) by a chiro.

I have arthritis in my back and hip from back surgery 22 years ago. I also broke my ankle 21 years ago, and severely sprained it 2 years ago. I still work out, but I also recognize when I need to stop as to not worsen the injury/pain when it happens. If I were you, I'd find a therapist that was trained at either Hill College, or TCC...their therapists tend to be a bit better and less painful.

Your problem may not be a back issue, but could be an issue with your hamstrings, glutes, abdominals, or quads...or could be a spinal issue...lots of possibilities, but most likely body mechanics played a role. You have to watch your foot position, among other things, when working out.

You are right about one thing, I am limber, but I do need to stretch even more and remember my own rule...

The more your body is like a rubber band the less likely you are to injure yourself.

Thanks

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/20/16 10:33 PM

Stretching, depending on what your sport/activity is, can be very important, or it can be detrimental if over done. A sprinter/runner, or cyclist, doesn't need to be as limber as say a gymnast. It really depends. The main thing is to warm up before, and cool down after, a workout...and to pay attention to your body mechanics and what muscles are activating during an activity...a trainer with a degree in Kinesiology should be able to lead you in the correct direction...I'd stay away from a CPT with just a certification...

right ankle ligament tear (some funny name), have to stay active to keep it from hurting too much. No running or anything like that. Back problems but the same thing, stay active to manage it.

LSS, school me on Rolfers please.
Posted By: LoneStarSon

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/21/16 02:33 AM

You mean Rolfing? It's painful as all get out...I had a session Saturday that was akin to Rolfing and I would not recommend it.

Basically it takes deep tissue massage up to 11 and changes your structure over a series of about 10 sessions. I'm not a big fan. I do a lot of the same things, but I don't cause pain...I'm also not a big fan of deep tissue massage, as most LMTs don't have a clue as to how to do it properly without hurting the client and possibly doing more damage.

What are you looking for as far as in a session with a therapist? Perhaps I can point you to a therapist that can help.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/21/16 02:44 AM

Lower back and SI seem like it's out of wack. My gait gets off and it causes my left ankle, knee and hip to hurt.

There's a guy here that does that, some swear by it.
Posted By: LoneStarSon

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/21/16 03:07 AM

Some do, I know. I, however, am of the mind that there are other ways to obtain the same goals without causing the pain.

The reality is, every therapist is different and every body is different.

From what you've said, it's most likely a foot/footwear issue...the feet, calves, glutes are your foundation. If something gets out of whack with them, it'll throw of the structure above.

I had a client with a similar complaint. They wanted me to work the lower back and hip, but the cause was actually adhesions and scar tissue that had formed from an old ankle injury. I was able to break up the adhesions and scar tissue, getting the ankle back into proper position. Then, I released the muscles and tendons above, fixing the problem. However, the client then head to relearn proper body mechanics to maintain the work.

That might be explain why it starts in the ankle and works its way up. Thanks thumb

Don't own any crocs, wearing Merrell and Ahnu mostly

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/21/16 03:27 AM

Hmm...I'm not familiar with those. Do they have good ankle support? Are they older than 6 months? Do they have more than 300 miles on them? Soles and insoles break down after 300 miles, changing how your foot is supported / cushioned.

Merrells are new and Ahnus have many miles on them. Ankle support?

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/21/16 03:49 AM

Hmm...They look like the ankle may be cut a little low, but it's hard to tell from the picture. If they have a lot of miles, I'd think about replacing them. Shoes that have become worn out, can also cause the IT band to tighten up. That could explain the hip and knee issues you're having as well.

i fractured my pelvis, caused a huge bone spur on the SI joint, now i hurt all the time. most of the time not too bad luckily. several broken fingers and broken nose a few times, tore my right pec. i guess i am accident prone.

have hurt my ankles before, that is miserable. never worn a croc before just because of how they look. another good reason not to right there.

My insurance will be changing soon, and for my back issue, I hope massage therapy will be covered. Chiropractic service is covered, and I've used them for years, but I'm reading here that chiropractic service is not good for you.

It's worth a try to "try something different," so I will.

I do stretch extreme yesterday. I stretch a lot already, but I really gave it a go yesterday, and today I feel a bit better. I can only imagine what consistency will do for me.

If you get it younger you'll heal better. Of course there are dozens of factors that go into this.

Actually yes, small puncture showed up about the same time...same day, I think.

Yes, it hurts to bend it. Mainly in that larger middle knuckle area...puncture is just above the first small knuckle.

Infected? I can't pop my knuckle like I normally can....kinda hurts to put that type of pressure on it. I keep thinking popping it would fix it. It's popped a few times, but no relief.

Get to a doctor...a hand doctor if one is around. Seriously. I am going through this right now. You may have infectious flexor tenosynovitis...It is an infection of the sheath surrounding the tendon. It can cost you your finger, your hand, your arm, and then your life, if that's what you have and you do not get it taken care of. Seriously. I'm on oral antibiotics right now, but if there is not significant improvement by Thursday, they'll have to incise and flush the tendon to remove the infection. Go see a doctor. Hand infections can get out of control very, very quickly. Mine started 7 days ago when I got a small puncture in my index finger from a sticker on my dog's coat...got BAD Sunday and by yesterday I could no longer extend or flex my finger through the full range of motion. Go!

Oh wow, good luck. Mine is not swollen like that. Knuckle is lil fatter, just notice trying to wedge my ring on.

I hope it's not serious. Mine is tender on the inside of the knuckle...inside of finger in the crease.

That's where it will usually start...that's what I'm saying. If you notice any more swelling, especially if it's uniform, get to a doctor that day and get it looked at. A hand infection can be deadly. It's a staph infection, and there isn't a lot of blood flow to that area, so depending on how far along the infection is, they will do IV antibiotics....then incise and drain the infection.

Lower back pain is kicking my tail, and reducing my workout efforts. I wonder if it's not just muscle spasms, but more in the actual spine; it's probably both.

My chair, mattress, truck seat, restaurant booths, what is the culprit? It could be anything...shoes?

Re: Name Your Injury... - 09/03/16 07:20 PM

Could be as simple as keeping a wallet in your back pocket...could be you're not activating your glutes when lifting. Could be an abdominal issue. Way too many possibilities...
Posted By: Bass_Bustin_Texan

Re: Name Your Injury... - 09/04/16 11:01 AM

I quit carrying my wallet in my back right pocket and now I carry my cell phone there and I can tell it's messing me up...yeah, I sit on the phone too. I can really tel when I sit on my bike saddle (seat)...my butt bone feels flat on the right side...left is not.

Does that seem logical? Can it be fixed? I had been told one leg is longer.
Posted By: LoneStarSon

Re: Name Your Injury... - 09/04/16 01:51 PM

If you are lacking gluteal muscles (no butt), it could be aggravating the bursa on your hip, it could be throwing off your pelvis enough to screw everything else up. In short, yes...As far as your leg being shorter than the other, that is something I have heard a lot of chiropractors say...RARELY is it an accurate statement. I mean, are they actually measuring your femur, tibia, and fibula on each leg? Are you bone on bone in one knee while the other one has the perfect amount of cartilage? Usually if one hip is up higher than the other, it's a muscular issue, and quite often, it's something to do with a hamstring, or one of the muscles (or ligaments or tendons) located in the pelvic region. Unless you have had knee replacement surgery, or something else where the bone, or cartilage, was somehow lessened, I doubt you have one leg shorter than the other.

Can it be fixed? That depends on what it is. If it's a bursa issue, anti-inflammatory medications, and/or icing the area regularly, can help get the bursa sac to calm down...working out and focusing on the gluteals and core muscles will also help in most cases. It can also be helped by the resetting of the muscles in the area, assuming there isn't a tear, or some other cause as I've mentioned earlier.
Posted By: LoneStarSon

Re: Name Your Injury... - 09/04/16 01:53 PM

Oh, and quit carrying things in your back pocket and then sitting on them...Think of a house foundation. If one side is lower than the other, then you're going to start having issues like doors sticking, windows that won't open, cracks in the walls and ceiling, etc. Same thing with the human body. Your feet, calves and glutes are your foundation. If you're throwing one side off, then everything above it will be thrown out of symmetry.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 09/06/16 12:03 AM

My back still hurts, and I dont' if it's spine or muscle related, but probably muscle

What's your take on exercising with pain/injury?

Injury/pain is the body's way of telling you something is not right, and you should rest. The more I rest, the longer the pain lingers, the more I get out of shape. I'm in good shape, lean, but I'm getting soft again after 2 weeks of minimal hard exercise. What should I do?

Addendum: I just got a new job and the insurance is changing. That is why I've waiting so long to check it out by a pro.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 09/06/16 12:15 AM

While I understand the desire to workout, your body needs time to heal. You may try icing the area...most likely you have some inflammation, or the muscle may be in spasm. There are so many things that could cause a problem with the back...it may not even be a back issue...it's practically impossible to tell you without doing a proper assessment. You may try a massage...a skilled professional should be able to tell you if they can help, or if you need to see a doctor.

https://www.amtamassage.org/findamassage/index.html?utm_source=%2ffindamassage%2flocator.aspx&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=redirect

You may try going on AMTA's site and seeing if they have someone in your area.

I would advise exercising until you're out of pain, as you're most likely just going to make things worse...either for the area that is in pain, or for an area that has to compensate for the weakened area.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 01/30/17 04:34 AM

I rode fast today, made Rowlett Creek dirt trail cry.
However, once back at the parking lot, I crashed.

I was zooming around the last turn of the final loop, heading toward the parking lot, and my eyes simply did not see/recognize the metal gate that I've seen a 1000 times before. I came up fast, looking down, but just as I looked up, 10 feet from the gate, I saw it. I pressed both breaks hard and my front wheel locked, and the back end and me, went up, over the handlebars, slamming my knee, then my back on the cement, with the bike falling on top of me.

I laid there for a few seconds, but had to get up to check my bike and my body for injuries.

I sprained two fingers on my right hand, (probably bent in the handlebar break) bashed my left knee and smashed my left forearm on the ground. It swelled up. Luckily, my back is okay, and I did not break anything. I just feel sort of beaten up all over, and I'm stiff in my joints and several muscles.

Moral: The ground is harder the older we get!

Addendum: I believe the gray truck behind the gate caused my eyes to trick my brain. I think the gate could use some flags.

Ouch! Glad you're feeling better but damn.

Diagnosed with fibromyalgia here back in 98. I have good days where I don't sit still, and then I have bad days where I literally cannot move.

I work on staying limber and moving as much as I can and have walked off 12 dress sizes. But even right now, I have spots on my back and on my thighs that feel like somebody took a belt sander to the skin and underlying muscle. Even soft t-shirt material lightly draped over my shoulders hurts right now. And that's just my life. Every time I move, I'm in pain. Sitting still I'm in pain.

Still have an ADD mind and I've never sat still well, so I tend to push myself past the breaking point given half a chance. Get me out in the country like two weeks ago and I was cutting down trees, peeling pine posts, hauling brush, etc. Then Sunday I could barely stand.

Right knee pain from a long time ago hyper-extension. Surgery was 10 years ago but still wasn't a good fix. I'm trying to increase running distances but currently fighting through it. Knee replacement will be in the future, eventually.
Also, left shoulder torn rotator cuff but doesn't bother me much unless I fish really hard for a couple of days straight. Then, I just fight through it and take Advil.

Growing old is not for sissies, and heck, I'm only 56. What shape wil I be in at 75? Scary to think about, but taking off weight will make all the difference.

I dread it, I turned 30 end of last year, and I already feel like I stay sore. Granted I lived a pretty wild and out of control life through my late teens/ early 20's. I'm too going with the "maybe shedding some lbs will atleast help with that."

I can tell you, I never had it diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I had plantar fasciitis in one of my feet. Hurt for like 2 years, and no matter what I tried it still hurt. Started losing weight and next thing I know it doesn't bother me any more.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/01/17 02:40 PM

The human body is/was made to be in motion, "not" sit at a desk or on the couch most of the day.

Odd though, we are supposed to be really active, and experience life, put our bodies through all kinds of tests, some easy, some strenuous, but for those of us who have been "athletic" all our lives, we feel it when we hit 40, for sure.

Those who live a mostly sedentary life hurt as well, mainly because they did not work the body as much as they should have, and ate poorly.

Either way, a work truck constantly needs tuneups, oil and new belts and tires. It never stops needing maintenance, and that clanking noise under the hood that has never gone away, that's that torn rotator cuff or bad knee that won't heal, and we feel every day or our lives.

Regardless, growing old is not for weenies. It tough, but I'd rather live and go out fighting the "fitness" fight than "spreading across the couch" and slothing away!

I need another knee surgery, but waiting for about 5 years so I only have to do one more in my life time. It doesn't bother me much except for occassionally when weather changes. Emu oil seems to help.

Right now, I am dealing with some left tricep pain. I think I may have over done it last week. Trying to work through the pain. Using a TENS unit last couple of days calms it a bit. Now have Salonpas patches on it. Will see how it goes the next couple of days

It COULD be inflammation, but I'd go have that looked at. If you don't have insurance, CareNow has a plan where you pay like $50 and it covers you with their 'insurance' for 6 months...and it's like $68 to go see them...it also gives you a discount on medications. You definitely need to take it easy and watch your body mechanics.

I went to the local Chiro (man and lady who run and bike). I told her about my elbow. She applied a pressure point, but didn't say anything out of the ordinary about it. She did mention I was tight....tighter than anybody she dealt with lately. All over. LOL!

You think a CareNow would diagnose inflammation and what would they give me? Take Tylenol and rest....huh?

I'll definitely have to reconsider doing MMA, that is for sure. It's probably not a good idea to start in your 50s.

It COULD be inflammation, but I'd go have that looked at. If you don't have insurance, CareNow has a plan where you pay like $50 and it covers you with their 'insurance' for 6 months...and it's like $68 to go see them...it also gives you a discount on medications. Actually, they'd probably give you Ibuprofen and tell you to rest it...and remember, Chiros are NOT medical doctors. I'd take a medical diagnosis from someone who went to medical school...and if it was extremely tight, it could be something that requires surgery...

Thanks, but for the tip. I'm not sure it's bad enough for surgery. I know a chiro isn't a doctor neither is a massage therapist. smile (Just messing with ya!)

I just got their opinion since they deal with muscles and bones....I work hard on my job and workout hard 6-7 days a week....all my muscles are tight and stay tight.

Time will have to heal it...I don't rush to docs everytime I feel an ache and pain. Runners learn to live through pain, and I don't use my arm to run. smile

BTW the Chiro I went to is who Hasben (TFFer) son used when he was a professional motorcycle rider. He used to fly out to manage his injuries when he was in LA. THat was what sold me on this Chiro Clinic. Good enough for a Yamaha Pro, good enough for me! smile

That's great. I'm glad you found one you liked. I've had to deal with so many making false claims and seriously injuring my clients, that I will never recommend someone go see one. Unfortunately, a lot of people believe they are medical doctors, and the chiropractors do not correct them.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/08/17 02:36 PM

Any ideas on a damaged hip flexor.

I tore it a couple years ago moving furniture/appliances into a moving truck. I didn't feel the damage until a day or two later, and it took months to heal.

It's never been the same. There are days/weeks and it's fine, but just the right/wrong foot placement, turn, bend, whatever, and it starts to act up. Once it gets sore, then the same foot placement, turn, bend, whatever, causes excruciating pain that almost knocks me to my knees.

I learned there are a lot of little muscles that make up the area of the hip flexor, and any "one" can get damaged, but when the pain hits, it's unbelievable what it does. It's a very weird pain.

So, ideas?

Addendum: I know stretching it is good for you, but I don't know if stretching it when it flairs up is wise. Probably "knot/not"!

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/08/17 04:17 PM

I got a Yoga video I can post if you want it....I did it last week when I was sore as all get out.

It's a Yoga video for cyclist. It has several stretches for HF. It's about 20 mins long.

After my bike wreck I had some issues with mine, about 3-4 week after wreck. Not sure if it was my longer distances I was running or what....but at night laying on it, my leg would go numb. I went to the chiro for that sole reason. I did have a few things out of place.....not sure if it was why I was sore there, but it seemed to help loosen me up.

Like you, I hit a certain pivot on that hip I feel a "catch", nothing bad.....but it has the feeling, "don't spin this joker too hard!"

I have been putting in a lot of miles this month so that could be adding to it.

It's better now though. I need to do that video again. I did it twice in 3 days. Really helps IMO.

Makes me wanna sign up for a Yoga class now. (See video you will understand!)

I watched these a couple days ago after having some bad headaches last week from my Traps.

He says stretching is key to recovery. So to answer your question....I say stretch them HF. banana

I bike ride a lot as well, dirt trail ride, and I feel the hip flexor, but it doesn't kill me. It's standing, putting on a sock or shoe, reaching down in the shower, whatever, that I feel it tweak.

I stretch a lot, but yes, by all means, post the video. I may have seen it already, but who knows.

Addendum: I do use youtube for tons'o research!

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/10/17 06:05 PM

It's hard at first, but you get used to it.

This stretch is for the legs, which in turn, eases pain in the lower back.

It is not necessarily a "hip flexor" stretch.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/19/17 05:19 PM

I trimmed trees yesterday at my Dad's, trimmed, cut, sawed, dragged big branch after big branch. It was hard on my shoulders, arms, legs and hands...
I tried to bike ride afterwards at Rowlett Creek, but my legs weren't having any of it, and I felt it.

After the Stars game, being back home, watching television for a bit, I was exhausted.

I woke up at 3.37 am, look at the clock, and the cramps in my legs were excruciating, two in the schins and one in a calf. I did not drink enough water.

I tried to walk downstairs, managed and drank and drank. It was all tough to do being half asleep.

Bedtime leg/foot cramps are killer! I'd surmise we've all felt them.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/21/17 01:38 PM

I know the leg cramps, foot cramps are simply dehydration after some sort of strenuous workout, but my real pain right now is my hip flexor. I mentioned before that I tore it moving furniture a few years ago.

The hip flexor is made up of many small muscles that connect to the leg muscles, torso and lower back. It's hard to determine which one is injured, but once one is hurt, it is a weird, and excruciating and awkward pain. It's "piercing," and just the right/wrong movement, like turning to pick up a sock, football, whatever, it can almost knock you to your knees.

I may start/ask about hip flexors in the OT, just because more people will see it.

My real question is not about what to do to stretch it out, but "should" I or "should I not" stretch it out during the painful periods?

I have been doing that video you posted on the arm of my couch. It seems to help limber my hips up.

I still got that ting in my hip too....but I think that is from my fall. It's right where my bruise and road rash was.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/21/17 01:56 PM

You should divide your weight by 2, that is how much water you should minimally drink a day. I know, it's hard to achieve those levels. I've been trying harder lately. This weekend was HUMID, I consumed almost 1.5 L on my Long Run Saturday...I couldn't believe it. Got home and drank 3 glasses of water like it was nothing!

It is most likely something akin to a charlie horse, so doing the opposite action might calm the spasm. Is the pain medial or lateral? (Inner our outer thigh?) Or is it more from the pelvis up into the abs?
Posted By: Indianation65

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/21/17 02:50 PM

The actual pain is right in the front area where the arrows of the "pectineus and salorious" arrows point. It's in the front and deep into the leg, about a area of a tennis ball to golf ball, I can't tell.

I've done stretches of all sorts, and there are times, days or even weeks when it does not bother me, but once it starts, it can last for days. Right now, I'm going on 10 days or so of tenderness, but if I turn the wrong way to even pull up 1 pant leg, it is a piercing pain that is in the exact spot, front and into the area behind it, but no pain up or down the leg.

As stated, the first damage was several years ago, twice, once moving furniture, the second sprinting from home plate to first base in a men's baseball league. Both times I damaged the flexor to the point that it felt like I tore something, but since then, pain simply comes and goes.

Once it starts, it lingers and is sore, but any moment, any turn, it is brutally quick and piercing.

I know the stretches, but I wonder if I should do them to relieve the pain momentarily, or do nothing but ice it for days.

I have no idea which little muscle, or bigger muscle is the injured one. I never went to a doctor, but had my ER doctor buddy check me out at his home. He usually says ice and relax, but stretch a bit to relieve pain. I'm just wondering if this has become a life-long issue for me. It will act up whenever it feels like it.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/21/17 02:57 PM

I do see quite a bit of tightness in that area with the athletes I work on. I generally release the gracillus, sartorius, and psoas. I would suggest strengthening the abductors/extensor muscles...
Posted By: Indianation65

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/21/17 03:41 PM

Once the pain stops, I should strengthen some of the muscles around the painful spot?
That makes sense. It should relieve the stress to the damaged area if what is around it is stronger. I give that a shot soon. Thanks.

LSSon, does "release" mean to stretch those areas, or is that something that a medical person does to a patient?

...------
Posted By: LoneStarSon

Re: Name Your Injury... - 02/21/17 04:16 PM

You should strengthen the opposite side of the muscles in question...often imbalance of the limb is what causes these types of issues and injuries. For instance when a sprinter/runner pulls a hammy, it's usually due to imbalance between the hamstrings and quads. So, you'd work on the opposite.

When I say release, I mean I employ a technique that gets the muscle to release at both attachment points (origin and insertion)...Dynamic stretches for these areas may be possible by yourself, I haven't studied a lot of those...but I would not recommend doing static stretches, as those tend to not work, or cause more damage.

Knee replacement. Go the 28th to make the decision. What is the healing time frame. I also was told the people my size have more failures than most. 6 foot 5 278 anyone else have any input.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/15/17 04:56 AM

Hmm, hard to get specific and accurate answers to this, but I've got some experience.

I've had 2 knee surgeries, same knee, once at 35, the second at 50, and I'm 52 now.

The less weight a person has the better for the recovering from injuries...

You'll be working your knee the next day more than likely, and with no complications, I'd surmise you might be walking and using a cane after a week.

Back to normal, or as normal as you will get determined by your age, I'd say anywhere from 5-8 weeks.

I am still wanting to work full time. even though i am pushing 70. I do irrigation work. So lots of up and downs on the knees. Just wanting to hear some feed back on how well people do after the they get the new knee.
Posted By: Nocona Brian

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/15/17 01:33 PM

I have no idea on a knee, but from past surgeries I've had 4-6 weeks is a safe bet, and it's still going to be stiff for a while after that. But once it's back, you're good.

For about the past 3-4 weeks, I've been battling a tailbone issue that I can not get rid of. I plopped down on a wrought iron chair and miss judged the seat part and caught the arm just right on it. Instantly I knew something wasn't right, fought though it that night, and the next morning I couldn't hardly get out of bed. Pretty much hurts anytime I'm sitting down, or getting up out of a chair. Driving is about the worst.

Re: Name Your Injury... - 08/15/17 02:32 PM

BGService,
I just read your second post, and that will be hard to determine now that we know your age, and that you want to work full time using your knees a lot.

My Dad had "replacement" surgery a few years ago, and he does have a hard time getting up and down, but then again,he isn't using his knees like you intend.

I'm surmise there probably are specific "knee replacement surgery" forums that could be more specific.

I know that if he is sitting for a while, and gets up immediately, it's a struggle. I tell him to bend it first, get it moving a bit, then get up.

For what you want to do in irrigation work, you'll probably have to inform "us" 1-2 months after you get back to work as to how well your surgery worked.

Addendum: If you can't work as you want with your "current" knee, that may help in deciding if you should go forward with a replacement. Good luck!

Re: Name Your Injury... - 11/03/17 03:16 PM

I crashed two days ago around 5:30 pm, that would be Nov. 1, 2017, at Rowlett Creek bike trail. It HURT!

It's a trail and descent that I've done 200 times, or whatever, lots of times that is.

My front tire hit the small rock right in the middle. I was not low enough to the seat, and I went over the handlebars hitting the rocks and big root at the bottom. My bike went left.

I was wearing my wrist guards so no breaks. However, my left side, up and down, from calf and knee to tricep, bicep, shoulder and chest muscle all hyper-extended. No tears from what I gather, but I'm feeling it still. I took the day off, and just got down on the floor to make a phone call. That hurt a lot getting down and gettting up.

At'll learn me!

Riding is a blast, but crashing is not!

I really hope I did not tear a muscle, especially my left chest muscle, but it hurts a lot. When I went over the bars on the descent, I put my hand down to brace, and as my lower half kept going over to land on my back left side, I must have stretch my entire left torso before I hit. Owww!

Ouch, while MTB is safer due to no traffic, that is what I fear....you tend to fall more on the trail than on the road.

Heck, my hip still has a road rash mark from the fall on January 1 last year.

Every now and then I'll look at these and be reminded why I only toodle around on mine around the house. That's is the exact reason I'm reluctant to get back on my mountain bike seriously. I really want to, but a bad crash, woooo, that'll put you out for a while. This was my over the handlebar spill 5 or so years ago. Left collar bone, 3rd time, cracked something in my right elbow, and my right wrist. Think I did something to my left hip, but I figured there wasn't much that could be done and I could walk, so I never had it looked at.breakdance

My chest hurts worse 4 days later. I do wonder what damage I did.

I'm not a big fan of going to the doctor when I know I'll only hear rest, ice and taking it easy is the plan.
I really hope it's just a big chest bruise, and not a tear. There is no discoloring at all where it hurts, but it hurts!
