thinking about a new motor - 05/03/16 05:24 PM
I have a weldbuilt 1648 semi-v with a 2007 20hp honda 4stroke. The boat is rated for a 40hp so i was looking at upgrading althoug thinking 30 would be enough. What motor would y'all go with 30hp or 40hp and what brand? Not a Honda

40hp is much better but 30hp is decent. Pick up any one which is under your budget. Welcome!

If I had to buy a new motor right now, I'd be looking hard at a 40-50hp Tohatsu

FROM WHAT IVE BEEN READING ITS BETWEEN A 40HP TOHATSU OR THE 40HP EVINRUDE ETEC
BUT FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THE ETEC DOESNT COME AS A SHORT SHAFT SO I WOULD HAVE TO GET A JACK PLATE

I have run Nissan / Tohatsu motors for the last 27 years I like them.

I have a Tohatsu 50 TLDI short shaft on a 1650 fb runs 35 mph with a tail wind. You can ignore the HP rating unless you fish coastal waters where there is coast guard.

Have an Etec on my Jon boat and really like the tilt/trim on the end of the tiller, the easy to reach shift knob on the tiller and the adjustable tensioner to help with torque
Very quiet and carries a duck hunting load very well when we get all loaded down
