In case you hadn't already heard, the sheepshead bite is strong right now at the Packery Channel Jetty. It's been happening for about a week now and should continue until the quarter moon on March 20th. Normally you would have to have live shrimp to catch them, but they are really revved up right now. Fresh dead shrimp will work just fine. Please remember the 15" minimum and 5 fish limit. There are lots of small males just below 15 out there, and the Game Wardens are doing their jobs.

A few mackerel are showing up too. All we need is a few calm days and some clear water. They'll be chasing tiny fry right now, so use your smallest spoon, or even try white feather jigs.

Tight lines!

Sheepshead are usually caught all year around. Jetties and piers hold a lot of them as they eat barnacles and such. Sand fleas are great bait if ya know how to catch them in the surf. It's too expensive to use live shrimp just for sheepshead imo.
