San Luis Pass Kayak Fishing Report - Fall Trout at the Pass - 09/06/16 02:32 PM
Greetings Fisherman,
Over Labor Day weekend we kayaked at San Luis Pass on the wind protected side of the Pass drifting and working drops offs. We stated out catching Red Fish on top water lures and then switched to soft plastic. We caught Red Fish on a Top Dog and a 22 inch trout on Glow Bass Assassin Paddle Tails. The bigger Trout were caught on Monday (Labor Day) by a retired Vet from Pasadena, Texas who was fishing with a silver Mirrodine XL twitch bait. His presentation was an ultra slow retrieve. When asked about the fish bite, he graciously responded by saying, Big Trout don't like to work hard for a meal so you have to make it easy for them. Nothing like picking up a fishing tip from someone with solid fishing experience from the local area.
I will be back at the Pass later this week for anyone who wants to hook up. With the higher than normal tides and light Easterly winds, we have had great tides. The bite has pretty much been on all day. I am open to a morning or evening kayak trip. Let's get the kayaks out and target some larger than normal Fall Trout.
Tight Lines!
