Fish Report Boy Screamed: “JC isn’t the song writer he thinks he is, he did write a few tunes for “The Archies” in 1969. I know for a fact JC wrote (Sugar Sugar, Bang-Shang-A-Lang and Jingle Jangle) for the Archies. I also heard JC collaborated with Alvin & the Chipmunks on their “It’s a Chipmunk Christmas” in the 60,s and he wrote “Beach Blanket Bingo” for Elvis, but besides that JC is really the Frankie Avalon of music.You know: A One Hit Wonder!!!

Bisbee Black and Blue Tournament Results!!!
It takes confidence to bet heavily when the stakes are so high. Yet that’s exactly what Team Tranquilo did this past week during the 35th edition of the Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament. The first-time crew from Costa Rica parlayed a hot streak with a hunch and the move paid off in record fashion. Tranquilo earned $2,511,462, the second-highest single team payout in Black & Blue history, with a blue marlin weighing 327 pounds. That fish was good for third place overall, sweeping all but one optional jackpots on the first day. Michael Moretti was the angler, with Captain Victor Julio Lopez at the helm of the 57-foot Spencer.
“This is the best third-place finish ever. It really means a lot, coming from Costa Rica with the boat and the team,” Moretti explains. “The competition here is the best in the world. It’s a different style than what we’re used to, but it’s very tough. The whole experience has been top notch and we’re already making plans to fish the Black & Blue again next year.”
Moretti & Company are coming off a first-place win in the Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore Tournament earlier this month. A 399-pound black marlin then earned Tranquilo $460,200, another tournament record, for a combined payout of $2,971,662 for the two events. The team caught a Pacific slam consisting of a black and blue marlin, a striped marlin and sailfish during the two contests. Both marlin were fooled by the same green/black plunger lure.
The international flavor of 2015 continued with a Canadian contingent from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Team Catching A Buzz, led by angler Tyler Squire, caught the heaviest fish of the week. The 500-pound blue marlin, Squire’s largest, earned the buddy team a check for $356,225. The awards included first-place team and jackpot, first-place captain and crew and the $1,000 daily for Day Three. Carlos Dominguez guided the team to the victory aboard the charter boat Rondinella.
Five More Minutes, another buddy team from Texas, is taking home $156,937 after landing a 356-pound blue marlin, also on the first day of fishing. The team won second-place honors and the $1,000 Daily with that catch. Jave Abaroa was the skipper of Whata Journey.
In the tight release division, Team Nice Ride came out on top after releasing two blue marlin. Those efforts earned Capt. Tyson Valli and the team a $76,295 payout. Fantasma, with Maricio Wenges at the helm, took second-place honors with two blues released. Fantasma earned $26,392, based on time. Predator, led by Capt. Morgan North, came in third place with a single blue, good for a check totaling $14,662. Only blue and black marlin are eligible in the release division.
One-hundred and twenty-one teams competed in the 35th edition of the Black & Blue, the richest tournament in the sport. A total of 945 anglers fished hard for three days and caught 44 blue marlin and one black. Teams had to contend with a noticeable absence of baitfish due to the warmer El Niño conditions. Squid were prevalent in certain areas, however, and all three winning marlin were caught on lures.
“Congratulations to all our winners,” said Tournament Director Wayne Bisbee right before the customary fireworks show at Saturday’s awards banquet. “Thank you for joining us for our 35th edition, and thanks to all our wonderful sponsors for making this possible. It’s been another one for the history books, and my family and I look forward to welcoming you all back again next year. Bueños noches and safe travels home.”

WEATHER: Some cloudy days with that huge storm south of us, its been cloudy and some rough seas for a couple days on Friday. The weather really hasn’t been to bad with highs in the mid 80,s and lows going down to low 70,s, so its actually pleasant when we are not getting any sort of tropical weather.
WATER: Please check out the Tempbreak map link below to get a good idea on water temperatures. Seems to be split in the water temperatures if you head northwest to Pacific side you will run into some cool water and if you head towards San Jose leaving Cabo you will see much warmer temperatures over there. So its kinda split down the middle go to Pacific and cool water or San Jose and warm water. We expect those cooler temperatures to spread towards the East Cape over the next 2 weeks to a month.

BILLFISH: Well, with not to many qualifying fish in the Bisbee Black and Blue this year it seems we had much better fishing for Blue Marlin over the last month than we got for the tournament. Its, to bad cause the last month has really been hot for all Billfish species till this last week, when it slowed. There has been some Striped Marlin around and still the Sailfish are here in the area. So the Bill fishing isn’t so bad if your just trying to land a Marlin. The Sailfish are up and around San Jamie Banks about 2 miles offshore from the beach. If you try anywhere from the Light House to Rancho Migrino you mite have some luck on Striped Marlin or Sailfish. Now is a great time to get on down to Cabo since the weather will soon get really good and the fishing is always consistent this time of year. DORADO: It seems a few more Dorado have showed this past week but it is nothing special yet. We have landed a few on lures and ballyhoo. Water was to warm and now it is getting cooler and expect the Dorado fishing to pick up soon.
TUNA: There has been some Tuna around but nothing major really. Still a few football size fish around at San Jamie Banks if your using striker kings you mite have a chance to land a few. They are great for Sushimi and Ceviche or just sear them on a grill
INSHORE: The inshore action is just SO SO with Small Tuna and Sailfish inshore. The inshore fishing has remained spotty at best a few Marlin have been taken on some of the Pangas from Solmar to the Light House has been good. Some of the local guys are landing some large Groupers in the rocks just offshore in front of the Pedregal. Some of those guys use a hand line with cut bait and land some nice fish anywhere from 20lb to 50lbs is common. They use Pangas and are good at dodging any waves coming in, since they are pretty close to shore fishing in like 20 to 50 feet of water.
WAHOO: Our own Bob Marlin did land a 58lbs Wahoo this past week. It didn’t help us in the Bisbee but it was a great catch and good eating for the boys. There are still some Wahoo around and they were being caught on jet heads.

JC,s Baja Smoked Tuna Dip.Yum!!!!
Ingredients Nutrition
Servings 6-8 Yield 1 1/2 cups Units US
• 1 (5 ounce) can Yellowfin tuna, drained well
• 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened slightly
• 1 1⁄2 teaspoons liquid smoke
• 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
• 1 dash pepper sauce (like Tabasco)
• 1⁄2 teaspoon paprika
Directions
1. Blend all ingredients together well using a stand mixer or hand mixer. Taste, and adjust seasonings to your liking. Be careful adding more liquid smoke, a little goes a long way! When ready to serve, try adding a light sprinkling of paprika over the top for decoration.
JC,s Baja Smoked Tuna Bruschetta!!
Ingredients
8 ounces sliced tuna
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
4 tablespoons cream cheese, room temperature
2 tablespoons unsalted, room temperature butter
1 tablespoon thinly sliced green onions
1 tablespoon minced shallots
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley leaves
2 tablespoons heavy cream
Crisped slices French bread or crackers, for serving
Thinly sliced green onions or chopped parsley leaves, for serving
Directions
2 tablespoons mesquite wood smoking chips
Season the tuna with the salt and pepper, and place the wood chips in the bottom of a stovetop smoker and position the drip tray and wire rack over the top according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly oil the wire rack, then place the tuna slices on the rack and position the lid over the top of the smoker, leaving slightly ajar. Place the smoker over high heat until smoke begins to exit the smoker. Reposition the lid so that the smoker is completely covered and lower the heat to medium. Cook the tuna until just cooked through, about 8 minutes.
Chop the tuna into 1-inch pieces and place in a food processor with the cream cheese, butter, green onions, shallots and parsley. Process until a very smooth paste, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary. Add the heavy cream and pulse until just combined. Transfer spread to a small serving bowl and serve the spread with crisped bread or spread on crackers, garnished with green onions or parsley, as desired.

5 oz Fresh lemon juice
.5 tsp
Superfine sugar
2 oz
Partida Reposado Tequila
.5 oz
Grand Marnier
Club soda
Ingrediants
In a shaker, stir together the lemon juice and sugar. Add the tequila and Grand Marnier, and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.Top with a small splash of club soda.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jc sport Fishing, Pisces Sport Fishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. They don't even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report.
